I waited until well after the holidays to say anything because I didn’t want to spoil things for anyone. Little Bear has crossed over. She was doing very well on pred and active however she wasn’t gaining weight or fully returning to normal. The antibiotics didn’t knock out all of her stomach infection and I took her to a specialist who ran tests. She gave me a different antibiotic which cleared everything up. (Her infection appears to be due more to bacteria taking advantage of her weakened state rather than the cause). She also gave me some critical care that she liked. Everything cleared up and Little Bear perked up and was stable but still not gaining weight. She was still taking pred and on the critical care. When the test results came back the specialist told me to have an ultrasound done on her liver. I scheduled one which would be after Christmas. On Christmas day however she was a little droopy, acting a little more tired and slow than usual. It wasn’t bad but she was obviously feeling a little down. I took extra care for her and planned to take her in the next day. However late at night or early morning she collapsed and I rushed her in. They did the ultra sound which showed that she had liver cancer and it was inoperable. All that they could do with it was what we had already been doing, prescribe pred and give her extra care until it was no longer working. That time though, was here. I had to say my last goodbyes and let her go.
Saying goodbye was the last thing that I wanted to do. At least though she was happy and perky up until the end. This is a clip of her shortly before Christmas. I had taken her out into the living room and sat her on the chair to wait while I got her medicine and critical care ready. I thought that she would hang out and sniff around in the meantime but she decided it was play time instead.
I'm glad to have a lot of videos like this at least.
