One of my ferrets ate very little today, then he started dry heaving, running into corners to hide it - about 15mins ago he three up a slimy thin pale green liquid with tiny darker and lighter chunks in it. Both him and his brother pooped, one batch of poop was orange (I'm assuming from the egg I fed them both earlier) and one batch was very dark brown and kind of runny looking. I gave him some Vaseline and salmon oil, and I'm about to syringe feed him water. I called the emergency vet and explained the situation to their voice mail and I'm just waiting on a call back. I know blockages can be fatal and vomiting is an extremely bad sign, he seemed okay until today and I didn't see he eat anything he shouldn't.
Please help, what can I do to make sure he's okay until the vet calls ? How can I make sure he's safe without stressing him out ? He's a 4 month old kit, not neutered, playing as normal when he does but is a little more cuddly and sleepy than usual

He just pooped and it's orange and yellow, so at least I know the egg seems to be passing through ? He hasn't thrown up since, and I'm currently keeping him isolated from his (now sleeping) brother, Soba. Soba's in the cage fast asleep, and I have pukey boy (Fax) roaming the room with a cat carrier with a blanket open for him to rest in, plus of course a water bowl and lotter boxes. Do I feed him ? Do I not feed him ? If I do, do I give him more egg ? Bone in chicken wings ? Pork mince ? Organs ? I don't have pumpkin, but I do have more Vaseline (I just sort of panicked and dunked my finger in it to give to him when he threw up)

He seems stressed and frustrated over his hunger so I gave him a small piece of kidney that he's ravenously eating. It's at least good to know he hadnt lost his appetite ? I'm just praying that he doesn't throw this back up.
I saved his most recent poop in a plastic bag to get tested at the vet, so I'm gonna let him go back into the cage to cuddle his brother because I don't want him even more stressed than he already is

Sometimes ferrets have a hair in their mouth and will throw up or he could have eaten too fast. Look around and check his toys to see if he hasn't eaten anything off his toys or anything around where he has been playing.
If he's hungry let him eat and let him drink water too. Keep a close eye on him and see if he still plays and poops as usual. Also keep an eye on him if he throws up again.

He ate the egg a good few hours ago and only threw up once about an hour ago - I've given him a piece of kidney and a bunch of pork mince (I figured that would be better than chunks or bone in stuff since it's easier to eat) I syringe fed him some water, haven't seen him drink on his own since then. As he was eating and running around hiding food he was breathing extremely fast and shallow. I know it's shedding season, his brother has a tendency to eat his own hair and start coughing so I'm used to that.. but I've never heard this one cough or anything like that at all. I'm just absolutely terrified because I know hair can cause fatal blockages and the emergency vet still hasn't contacted me

Also i notoced that the fabric off of the corners of my laundry hamper has been chewed,so maybe little fibres off of that combined with the shed fur caused a blockage ?

He pooped again just now, but both poops have been bright orange and small - maybe 2cm long ? I'm honestly at the point where every time I hear him breathe funny I'm ready to cry ðŸ˜

.. I just noticed that a corner on my mattress has been chewed/scratched up I've noticed them digging at my mattress before but I had no idea this corner on the under side of it had been basically shredded ?? There's no exposed foam, but the fabric is all ripped and stringy

Since you have found chewed material there is a possibility that he may have eaten some of it. So you will want to do the blockage protocol. Has the vet called yet?
The orange poop probably has been from the egg he ate.
To stop him from scratching/shredding the mattress, take an old bed sheet and put it on the underside of the mattress. Just like you would on the top side put it on the underside.
How is the little guy doing?

Emergency vet never called back, I found a vert nearby that's open Sundays and they said if he throws up again to bring him in, and if he doesn't throw up again to bring him to his usual vet tomorrow.
He won't eat solid food, I tried to give him a chicken wing but he just kept running around stashing it without eating it. I gave him pork mince with a bit of salmon oil on it to entice him and he's eaten some of it, but now he's just stashing that as well.
He's a little less energetic than usual, but he's still been romping around wrestling with his brother. It's the fact he won't eat solid food and the fact that he's now not eating much that's concerning me. He did kind of gorge himself on the mince last night after throwing up, but he wouldn't still be full since they poop so often right ?

How's your ferret doing? What did the vet say?

The vet said that since he only threw up once and started eating again that he was probably fine, to bring him in if he throws up again. Over the week he got better, got more active and ate more.. then today He didn't eat for ages, and when I finally did get him to eat he threw it back up about an hour ago. I gave him water, Vaseline, and some salmon oil - I don't care what the vet says at this point im making him give Fax an X-ray tomorrow morning because he s clearly not okay

Is there anything i can do to help him other than what I'm already doing ? It hurts so much to watch him get so stressed and probably in pain

There isn't much you can do for pain... About the only pain med you can give and a vet will prescribe is metacam. Is he pooping? If you suspect a blockage ask for an x-ray with contrast. Hope he gets to feeling better soon.

Is there something I can try to feed him to help make sure he doesn't crash or lose too much weight ? My vet said to not feed him any egg since it might have been what made him puke,, but he puked twice today even though he hadnt had any egg in a week
