Mischief has been wheezing in her sleep. It has been happening for a little over a week but the air quality was really bad due to fires and I couldn't even narrow down who was wheezing cause they were all fine when awake. She is eating sleeping and poopping. On careful inspection she is breathing a little rough when awake. I have a vet appointment for Tuesday morning. Should I be more concerned? She seems healthy although yawning more than usual.

Hi. As long as she is eating etc normally she should be ok till Tuesday. She could have a flu or a respiratory infection. If she starts having serious trouble breathing, she will need an emergency vet visit. You should look for one now, and if needed, apply for Care Credit through Synchrony Bank for emergency vet bills. They give you 6 months interest free to pay, and the application is easy and very fast. Many dentists also take it. Maybe it is just smog from the fires, but I would have her checked. I Hope it's not serious.

Thank you. We do have emergency options on hand. I'll keep an eye on her for now.

At the vet now turns out she's a he lol. They are thinking asthma exasturbated by the smoke? I've never heard of that with ferrets, waiting on test results to be sure.

I have never heard of that either. I may google that. I do hope he gets to feeling better---Bless his heart. I got my Phoebe off craigslist. They advertised her as a boy, did not look until a few days later. I am glad I got her even though my intention was to get a male

I had a ferret and a friend of a friend found 4 in the yard last winter. Lost one to a vet emergency short after in all the hubbub I misremembered the genders lol.

We did blood work and x rays. Still waiting to hear back from the respiratory specialist but he is on prednisone and expected to recover. After a month we will wean him off the meds and see how he does. The Dr says some ferrets need meds forever some don't. Thanks guys I don't have any ferret people so it's so great to have the support 🤗
