Hello,
I've noticed after washing my ferrets bedding, the smell still somewhat lingers. Anyone have any helpful tips to eliminate the odors in their blankets after a wash? Vinegar, baking soda, soap, etc. I also heard fleece is the worst type of material to use for bedding. Thanks!

I use hypoallergenic laundry soap (brand is ecomax) and I use 1/4 of a bounce sheet. I find they don't smell bad and it's not an over powering laundry smell. None of my ferrets have ever had issues with it. They roll in the clean laundry. I also wash weekly

I was weekly with vinegar and laundry detergent, if the smell is extra stubborn I throw a bit of an enzymatic cleaner in the wash with it and that kicks it right out generally. You could also try adding a bit of Dawn dish soap since ferrets produce oils and Dawn should get rid of that kind of residue. Fleece is great imo, better for the environment and comfy for them. Using any kind of fabric softener will create a coating on the fleece and make it harder for water to penetrate, so keep that in mind too.

Yes, never use fabric softener on towels or animal bedding, makes it less absorbent. I use unscented detergent and rotate when I wash it between using a splash of bleach or two cups vinegar, hot water.

I also wash frequently. I use the sanitize cycle a lot on my washing(because my front loader gets moldy). I do not leave door open for fear of ferrets getting in there. And then there the rubber, which they love to chew on. Do not have too much problem with smells--would not know about intact ferrets tho. I do use bleach sometimes to remove blood stains off blankets from raw meat.
Guilty of Downey sheets. Just switched. The liquid Downey clogs up where the fluid drains into my washer. I tried the perfume free sheets along time ago but they did not soften--or maybe because I could not smell anything, I thought they were not softening. Could have been brand. I use Arm and Hammer for sensitive skin for washing. It is unscented.

White vinegar works better than any fabric softener, for removing odors and softening. The vinegar smell doesn't linger.

I use Charlie's powdered laundry soap to wash my ferret's bedding (and hot water), and he is intact so he can be a little greaseball. It gets smells out nicely, with no added fragrance or residue.
