Yesterday was cage deep cleaning day. So I decided to put the cage outside while I set up the inside play area for them. I set up three playpens together. In this area they had a system of tunnels a dig box a ball pit and a partially complete sensory tower (three drawer plastic storage with each drawer having something else for example in mine one has rice another noisey cat balls and the last one has shiney soft things. All connected with tunnels) as well as a few random toys, shiny objects and hiding places thrown around in it. Plus a cat who will come and go as he pleases. Anyways. I set up the play area go outside to get them and DiNozzo is war dancing around on the ground. I was looking for how he got out. Turns out he broke one of the welds on one of the bars in the upper story of his cage bent the bar backwards and climbed out. I grabbed him and Kona took them inside stuck them in the play area. Now we have to be careful with these two as they like to escape in different ways. Kona likes to climb over and DiNozzo likes to go underneath. They behaved for the first 3-4 hours. Then my husband and I went about our daily chores (inside near the ferrets) and while I am vacuuming he is loading the dishwasher. All of the sudden there is a ferret in the dishwasher. So we but DiNozzo back with Kona and immediately he is trying to climb out. So I set up an old rabbit cage and put him in that. Kona behaves for the entire time until my husband and I had to leave so I put him in the rabbit cage as well and put mini locks on each side of the doors so they can't break out. While we were gone I discussed with my husband how to temporarily fix it and what the long term solution will be. We did some brain storming for a bit and finally we decided to order the ferret nation like I originally wanted and found a piece of my old dresser to block the broken wire. That piece is too thin to block off part of the cage but having the litter boxes and the wall holding it in place should get us through til friday.

They are escape artists for sure.
I do have free roamers and one morning my Annabelle got in the dishwasher. None of the ferrets were stirring--- so I thought. After loading the dishwasher and closing it, I happened to find a stray cup in the bathroom and decided to put it in the dishwasher. When I opened it up--- there she was all wet in the lukewarm water. From then on, I do look for ferrets before closing dishwasher. It would have been a horrible death.
Have fun putting the ferret nation together.

Abbey is right about them being escape artists, absolute Houdinis! And it's always the one you don't expect that gets everywhere too. Skadi my deaf jill can climb anywhere, somehow that one can her on top of th wardrobe..... And there's nothing around it for them to jump on to get up there either... Still tryina figure of out how she does it

You will be very happy with the Ferret Nation!! I have a rabbit cage too and it was okay for 1 ferret but cleaning it was just awful. I had to make my own shelves in there to provide him more levels and space. So I ended up getting a double ferret nation because I wanted the extra space even for 1 ferret! He lives like a king! Your ferrets will love it. Just make sure you close the doors properly. lol I made the mistake of not closing properly one night and he got out. Now I tug on the doors to make sure every time it's closed. lol

I've noticed that if you push on the cage to move it, it seems like the pieces can get just out of alignment enough for the doors not to shut if you don't intentionally push them all the way closed, or have the screws tightened down enough. Either that, or I need to grease the springs on the latches. My husband got a bit of a rude awakening one night when a small creature launched itself onto his side of the bed.

the new ferret nation doesn't have any screws, but you'll want to have a mallet or hammer to help drive the pieces together.

LOL Yeah I have one door at the bottom and I have to make sure it clicks shut as it sticks. When I squeeze the 2 knobs together and then let it go to lock it the top knob just sticks. It was like that the very first day I got it.

So it arrived yesterday even my husband noticed how much better it was than the stupid feisty ferret cage. It's bigger in every way including the half shelves. I will say my husband hates the ferrets but even he likes this cage better. The only real issues I had putting it together was that I accidentally screwed the bottom part with the casters and the shelf in backwards and need my husband to undo that part for me. THen there was one corner that was a pain. Otherwise it was so easy to put together. Parts weren't falling on me while I tired to get another part into place it was like a dream. One thing I always do is tug on doors when I close a cage. I don't care what animal is in a cage or why when I close the door I tug it. My dog would escape his crate as a pup all the time making it so I had to come up with new and creative ways to keep him in. After having DiNozzo for 2 days I regretted the feisty ferret cage and wished I had gone with a ferret nation. Now I have it and am so happy. No hammers or mallets were necessary so that was good. The best part was watching my boys war dance and hearing them dook while trying to find each other (I put them on different levels when I first put them in).

That is so awesome!!! Glad you love the new cage and it sounds like the ferrets do too!! Yay!!! Just be aware that the doors do come out from the hinge if you bumped it from the bottom. I have never done it but if it did and the ferrets were near by the door could fall on them. Also be aware that the shelves in the cage do move and can pop out of the hole they are in. Mine has not done that yet but occasionally I do find it tipped so I have to straighten it again. Since I only have 1 ferret so less jumping around in the cage but you have 2 so they could be bouncing around and the shelves could slip out and fall. Check that regularly too. Great cage though!
