I'm currently one of many Iowans w/out power for 36hrs ongoing. It is August and 84F in my home. I'm posting some tips to keep ferrets cool, please expand as you see fit. I am on mobile, so I apologize for spelling errors/misspeak.
-remove all bedding (liners, blankets, etc) -remove all litter and replace litter w/cool water (change every 2-3hrs, litter trained ferrets will pee/poo in the water) -soak all hammocks so they are damp w/ water and hang back up -offer pedialyte/petalyte mix either in bowls or via syringe (pedialyte is high in dextrose, do not feed more than a few mLs, mix with tap water) -offer wet food only (kibble soup w/very little kibble), wet treats -spray salom oil on ice cubes (ferrets will lick it off as it freezes) -spray ferrets/put them in a sink of cool water regularly (clean ears at the end of the day to prevent ear infections from water entry)
If you have ice cubes/frozen water bottles/gel packs, wrap them in a damp towel to cool. If you have air flow (windows or battery fans) hang damp towels on the side of the cage for evaporative cooling.
I personally leave my pets in the cage on hot days to monitor them. Even if it is cooler for them to sleep on the floor under the couch, they will often crawl into the couch where it is hot because it is comfy. They are terrible at self preservation.
Be safe pet parents!

Yesterday was boiling, thankfully today is much cooler! But yesterday's routine was 2 hour rotations for free roam in the living room where it's cool, so I'd have Freya, Skadi and Loki out first, then keep Loki out and swap Freya and Skadi for Laufey and Sigyn as they're new and the girls just seem hate each other at the moment, and Loki is somehow able to float in and out of both pairs easily. I think it's because he's a youngster. So icey bottles and alternating free roam in the living room, while checking Frigg and her week old babies weren't getting too warm every 20 minutes was how I dealt with yesterday. I'm so glad today is a lot cooler tho!
