Hello ferrants, my ferret group has gone from 1 to 7 in the last couple of months so Freya now has a squad, we can thank ferret maths for that (I am limiting myself to 7 now though) But anyway what I wanted to ask is, would hemp seeds be a good idea for a dig box? I'm trying to avoid rice as it gets everywhere and I don't want rice all over my bedroom floor, I know some people use beans as an alternative, and some even use sand but I can see that getting everywhere just like rice does... So if hemp seeds would be safe to use then I can her some where I do voluntary work as they sell it in kilo bags for bird consumption, but if not then I think I'll have to hunt down to dried beans

I have never seen hemp seed without being crushed--is it small that can get stuck up the nose?

They're bigger than a ferret nostril, like a lentil but chunkier sorta size

Teehee, that's quite the addition! Congrats! I would think at that size, which sounds not much bigger than rice, it would still get everywhere--that's just the nature of small, scatterable objects around ferrets. One solution is to have the lid attached to the container, and cut entry holes into it, or have some sort of extended tube attached as an entry point (either to the top or the side, whichever works best).

So I got 10 bags of hemp seeds the other day and only needed 4 to fill up the dig box, they love it, it doesn't all stay in the tub though but doesn't get everywhere as much as rice does, even the kitten joined in on the dig box play
