Bought an Alphatrak II, using dog setting, I get 83 or something in the 100’s. At the same time that I got 83 via Alphatrak, the vet’s centrifuged lab-run sample says 60. I thought Alphatrak’s run low and give lower-than-actual BG readings..mine is not doing that...anyone else have this issue? I also used the “control solution” and it reads within range for that. Alphatrak seems to be totally useless..?

We had our alphatrak II checked against the vet's results and it was within 0.2 mg/dL. This meter was recommended by the vet, and she said it was working fine. The only problem I could imagine is a bad batch of test strips, or possibly out of date? I have read that the expiration date is serious. They do go bad, esp if exposed to atmosphere/moisture. prep the meter, take out one strip, close the jar asap.

Did your vet check it against their glucometer (hand-held) or was it an actual draw they ran through the centrifuge and their lab software? Our meter is brand new, as are the strips. I hadn’t heard that the strips are super sensitive to an open container, I’ll definitely keep that in mind, thank you. I may just buy new strips, though we’re looking at trying diazoxide for her BG issues so she can get the Des implant. (She’s currently managing her BG by diet alone- she can’t do pred of any kind, but needs to get the implant)

I believe she did a +draw. I'm not saying the strips are the issue, but all I've read suggests handling them minimally and not use them beyond expiration date.
