Hi everyone! We recently began transitioning to the Frankenprey raw diet from Wysong kibble, and while we're still advancing one of our ferrets to ground raw chicken, our little boy has begun eating bone-in chicken wings and beef pieces. I know how important heart, liver, and other organs are in their diet but he sniffs the liver piece and licks it a bit, then runs off (and I know he just wants the chicken). What are some ways to disguise the liver and heart/other organ? Could I use baby food or some type of canned cat food and mix it in? I guess I'm just not sure how to serve it. As far as the heart meal goes, I bought some pork hearts last Saturday and froze 2, refrigerated 1. He ate the heart meal I offered earlier in the week, but turned his nose up today when I offered it with the liver. However, the heart smelled... weird/nasty, to say the least, so I threw it away. How can I tell if the heart had truly gone bad? Same with the liver, should I go by the smell? (I realize I need another organ so I'll be heading to the store this weekend to find some lung/kidney, etc.) I found these frozen liver treats, but can they be used as a meal replacement for the raw liver? Link hereThank you!

If it smells a lot worse than normal, or the colour looks off, I wouldn't risk it. I would suggest blending it into a creamy soup and adding some salmon oil for flavour? Maybe put small chunks of the chicken in with the soup so that he will at least eat whatever is covering the chicken? I wouldn't suggest using the treats as a first option, but as they are just liver and you really can't get your ferret to eat fresh liver, I would try them.

Thank you for the ideas! He switched very easily from the kibble to the raw chunks, so I was able to skip the soup phase mostly, but I will try to add some chicken broth and chicken chunks to the liver. I'd like to use the treats as a last resort because they're $$$.
Thanks again!
