So I have inherited two baby kits about 10 weeks old at this point. And I knew nothing about ferrets so I went only line and devoured as much info as I could. Long story short I’m switching them from kibble to commercial grind (balanced) and they took to it no problem. My concern is because they didn’t need to be weened is it messing with their digestive tracks. Their poop is foul smelling. Like rotting meat. And can range from extremely water and mucusy to perfectly normal. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to wait it out for their body’s to get use to it. T. I. A.

I believe as long as there is no blood in the stool and their energey level has not changed i.e. very lethargic, poor energy level and feeling weak then they are a-okay. Their tummies have to digest a change to their diet. If you are still concerned may I suggest taking them to the vet. Also, if they ate kibble food shortly after you fed them grind food it may have upset their tummies, but it's okay, it will recover. Another thing-be sure to add bone in meal to provide calcium in their meals, which is supposed to harden their poo as well. I hope this helps.

please do not add bone meal if your grind is balanced Grind should be about 80 percent muscle:10 percent bone and 10 percent organ I am so sorry that most of our breeders are not on here anymore so I can not really help you. But going to the vet is a good idea in my opinion as well.
