This is hard. Despite our best efforts, Goober disappeared Tuesday night. Hours of calling and squeaking and no Goob. We have a marshall playpen on the porch but it it was closed and wasn't latched the last time it was shut, and tho I have never seen him try to open it the way Scamp used to, when I went out to check it was open just enough for a ferret to get thru. Lily and I had gone out there for just a couple minutes, and he must have snuck out behind us, though I watched Lilly come out and never saw him. We live between hundreds of acres of wood and hay fields, so searching is pointless. I may be on my last 3 ferrets for good this time. On top of that, I got the covid ax from work today. At my age, it's not gonna be easy to find something else, esp when folks in my field are getting laid off all over the country. It took me 5 years to get through college just so I could work for 4 1/2.

How awful! I hope he wanders back home before something eats him. Sorry about your job, too.

Oh no, unclejoe, I am so very sorry to hear of your sad news. I really hope Goober comes home. Please don't give up squeaking a toy so he will come out from where he might be. And so sorry to hear of losing your job. I know exactly how that goes as the same thing happened to me. My place of work closed for good and will not be re-opening even after covid. It did my full time job in. I took over as the manager and now it's gone just a year later.

That is awful about your job. I hope something works out for you that is better.
Got a little something on the porch your little one can crawl into--- an open carrier with some blankies or a turned over box in case he comes back on porch?
Prayers for you.

Man that is awful. A lost job and a lost ferret. Don't give up looking. I've had many times when I thought all was lost but things finally worked out. I've also known people who had ferrets lost for days but still found him. A few years ago I thought that I had lost one of mine and was sure that She had somehow slipped out without me seeing her. It tuned out that she had slipped into a closet and had gotten shut in. A lot of places have started opening back up. Things can turn around.

I would suggest putting some strong-smelling treats and some of his blankets in a carry cage. My ferrets have probably escaped over 20 times, but with a safe place to come back to, they have always returned within the day. If you keep your other ferrets in an outdoor playpen for a bit, he may want to come back and play with them.
