So about 5 days ago one of my boys got sick. Throwing up and not feeling very well. And when i say throwing up, like projectile throw up. Not vomit.
So immediately i started the blockage protocol. Ran to the store and got some pumpkin puree, already had ferret lax on hand. So over the course of 4 hours he got the blockage treatment and pooped out a rather big piece of hair. I hoped the worst was over. Over the next 4 days i gave him ferret lax twice a day to make sure everything was cleared out. He has been eating and drinking well. Also his poop is looking good. Good color and texture, sometimes a little small, but often times normal amounts. Well this morning i go to let him and his brother out of their ferret mansion and i notice he is wobbly. He uses his feet, but looks like he is weak in the hind quarters.
I pinched his webbing between his toes and he responded, even check his anus reflex and he also responded
So i do t think its neuological at this point.
Off to the vet we go!!!
After a 3 hour wait we finally see the vet. He seemed tp be fixated on the spine. After all the research ive done, gait disruptuon wasnt due to spinal issues. But he is the Vet doc and i am not so i went with it. He took a couple xrays. Says he saw a pinched nerve near his neck. He then showed me pictures of a spinal column with vertebre and the discs and how it would cause nerve damage and lower extremity weakness. He gave him a shot of dexromethlasone. Told me to give it to him once a day.
Question is, had anyone experianced this before? Could this be a nurtitional issue being given ferret lax for 5 days? I know the ferret lax can cause absorbption problems.
Thank you for reading this and any information you may have.
