Hi all, I am just getting a female about 10 week old ferret whom we named Charlie. I new to this all but after doing a lot of reading and a bit of research I’ve decided I’d like to feed her the Frankenprey raw diet. However, I’d like to also make sure the ingredients I’m buying would make sufficient meals following to 80/10/10 rule. I’d be starting with the soup since she’s currently being fed Marshall’s but since I’m ordering online; I’d like to order for the future as well. Do you think these would make good meal options and how long do you think it would last one female baby ferret?

It’s 2lbs of the following: Chicken Gizzards Chicken Hearts Chicken Livers Beef Kidney Boneless Chicken Thigh Chicken Necks Whole Atlantic Herring 1lb of the following: Beef Marrow Bones Ground Goose Bones/Organs Ground Mutton/Bones/Organs Ground Venison Beef Bone Blend 4 Semi Boneless Dressed Quail

Ground Venison Beef Bone Blend -----does this include organs?
Following the 80:10:10 rule for muscle, bone and organs these are acceptable as grinds. Ground Goose Bones/Organs Ground Mutton/Bones/Organs
Quail is fine too. I would use this as a bone-in meal on the frankenprey diet. Chicken hearts good and important.
Chicken necks ok if can be consumed by ferret. Since this is not in my meal plan---I do not know if they will have to be smashed. You can also offer wings and save the drum part of the chicken wing for yourself or dog---it is a little too dense. Even turkey wings and duck wings are too dense.Chicken backs are good too. What do you guys think about chicken necks needing smashed?
On the fish let me investigate how often it can be offered. It is not much.
Beef marrow bones r too dense.
All these others r ok too. Chicken Gizzards Chicken Livers Beef Kidney But u will need to use the alternative chart. People who feed whole prey and frankenprey use this as well. I will find this site and show how to read.

Here is the Alternative chart---can you access it as a guest? holisticferretforum.com/natural-diet/raw-diet-the-meat-of-the-site/balancing-frankenprey-with-alternative-meals/You can see that grinds(commercial raw with hearts, organs, bones and muscle) is among the 4 listed above the chart that is considered an alternative meal. Like if you served a mouse (whole prey) that would be an alternative. According to the 7 day meal plan on the chart (feeding AM and PM) serving 1 grind, you will need to serve 8 bone-in meals, 2 muscle meals 1.5 heart meals, 1.5 organ meals. Reading across it shows you what you will need to do if serving 2 alternative meals. Since you are feeding a kit though, you will have to feed 3-4 times a day. Like for supper you can give extra to help kit get through the night--if you want to do 3 times a day. To help baby ferret develop good bones--- I would make sure it is getting those bone-in meals.

Thank you so much for that. I appreciate it. I’d like to solely stick to a Frankenprey diet but the site I was ordering from was out of stock on a few things so that’s why I selected those grinds. That grind does not contain organ so to my understanding I would add 10% of organ to her meal if I were to feed her that grind specifically right? Or I just try to stick with a balanced grind or just the Frankenprey diet. This is a bit confusing to me. Figuring out what meats to give, what category it falls into, creating a menu kinda and getting the percentage of what her diet should be right. I did see the Frankenprey Menu page and that does help. I guess I’m just nervous in making sure I’m providing everything she needs. Again, I’m going to start her on the soup first but I’d like to be prepared and make sure I have the next steps for her.

It is ok to do grinds and frankenprey. really it helps get some variety in their menu. It is kind of hard to find bone in meats. people rely on chicken a lot---but what if ferret has problem with chicken protein? While I do mostly whole prey---I still count the frozen guinea pig as frankenprey because there is no way my ferret could eat a 1.5 lb guinea pig/ with organs in a day. So I butcher the guinea pig and save the organs and then serve it all like frankenprey. Bone-in meals would be the extremities/ribs for example and then on another day---it could be the organs.
That would be just fine. Or, just make sure they get their 1.5 or 1 organ meals during the week. It is depending on how many grind meals you give them.
So let me make a sample menu with grinds This is an alternative/ frankenprey menu Anyway, this is how I am thinking it could be done. So with 6 grind meals, the chart says u r to have 5 frankenprey bone-in meals, 1 heart meal, and 1 organ meal.
Monday A.M. goose grinds P.M. quail (Bone) Tuesday A.M. hearts (Heart) P.M. chicken wing or back (Bone) Wednesday A.M. Mutton grinds P.M. chicken gizzards or some chicken thigh meat (Muscle) Thursday A.M. goose grind P.M. quail (Bone) Friday A.M. beef kidney/chicken liver (Organ) P.M. chicken wing (Bone) Saturday A.M. ground venison/beef bone P.M. goose grind Sunday A.M. chicken wing or back or quail (Bone) P.M. Mutton grind

Gotcha! Thank you so much! What a help. Last question, I think. 😬 If I got 2lb. rabbit chunks which totaled 75% meat 15%bone 10% organ, if I only gave her 4 oz of that for a meal how would that meal be categorized as? bone in meal?

Yes it seems like that would be just fine. Or, just make sure they get their 1.5 organ meals during the week.
Just read this through again and it answered the question I just posted. Thank you again! ❤️
