I was wondering how the the process for joining the mentor program works. I've finished the switch starter class and understand that I will be placed in a mentoring group. When can I expect this to happen? Also, what can I do, other than purchase the necessary supplies (i.e., kitchen scale, chef's knife, etc.) and read up more on raw feeding, to prepare?
Thanks.

Not sure if they are doing the mentoring program presently but you can start your own switching thread and some of the more experienced people will chime in to help you with the process.

Ah. I saw a thread stating so from later last year but I wasn't sure if they had started it back up. That's too bad. There's a lot of (great) information on the site but, I have to admit, I find it all a bit daunting. Then again, I tend to be a bit disorganized at times.
Thank you much for the information.

I could be wrong but I haven't seen anything about the mentoring program starting. I started a switching thread of my own and a couple of people had given me some advice when I needed it. My switch went very well. My ferret was 3 months old when I found this site and decided to switch him. The younger they are the easier it is to switch!!
I even missed the soupy stage and went right to chunks. I was a bit concerned about the bones but I chopped them up and he handled it well.

I actually went that route but that's what I'm confused about. I finished the switch starter class and now I'm wondering when (or if) I'll be added to a mentoring group.
In the meantime, I think I'll just begin incorporating slivers of muscle, heart and organs into his FDR. In fact, I think I'll creep on your and others' switching threads to get a better idea of what to feed him and how much.

I ended up not going through the mentor program myself since my ferret was an easy switch being young and seemed to pretty much eat anything I offered him, except for chicken lol To figure out how much a serving size is, males eat between 3-5oz of raw per serving. I feed my ferret 2oz at each meal so he gets 4oz each day, 2 in the morning and 2 at night. Some will eat more but for mine that seems to suit his needs as sometimes he has a couple bites left over by the time I give him his next meal. If there is no food left then increase his serving size a little bit more so you know he is getting enough. Young ferrets eat more then adult ferrets so always offer more while they are still growing! It's better to have a bit left over then you know he is getting enough and not hungry. You will also learn that in the summer they tend to eat a bit less and in the winter they tend to eat a bit more so adjust accordingly.
