No way!! I'm so sorry to hear this. Yup, read up on the raw diet so you can switch them as soon as possible when you get them!! I have been stocking up on raw meats for them. Today I bought about 5lbs of hearts 20lbs of chicken hind quarters, a couple packs of turkey necks, some turkey wings, 3lbs gizzards,0.75lbs chicken livers, 2.5lbs ground pork and 4lbs beef suet. I understand the suet is very fatty but I've also heard that ferrets do better with fattier meat. I don't plan on feeding the suet by itself rather mixed in with other beef pieces (like stew meat or the 97% lean ground beef we typically by). At the very least I'm good on chicken for them. We also keep ground turkey in the freezer all the time so that's covered as well. I actually have more in chicken organs (hearts, gizzards and livers) than I have in kibble. Yes I'm aware hearts and gizzards don't count towards their organ counts.

That's awesome!! You sound very well prepared!!! Having lots of variety in meats and bone in meals helps too because if for instance you can't get one meat for a week or 2, then you still have a good variety for them.

I'm honestly thinking about sending back my 5lbs bag of Wysong. I bought a 20oz bag of Marshall's cause that's what they feed them. Really I just need to order some kidneys/pancreas and buy some more pork and meaty pieces of beef and I'm set for them on the raw side.

Thanks to my insomnia last night I searched and searched for ferrets in my area. Found a pets tire I have never heard of that is huge. Easily the size of a petco if not bigger. One of their reviews mentioned ferrets. So I waited for them to open and called them to see if they sold ferrets, expecting to be told no or that they didn't have any in right now. To my surprise and delight they had one left. I asked them if they could hold him for me and I'd be there in about 45 minutes for me. They again said yes. I got there as fast as I could. And am now the proud owner of an almost 4 month old male (pics will come tonight). Since he is almost 4 months old I'm starting the raw switch right away. It's been 3 hours since I purchased him so it should be safe for his first raw feeding.

Yay!!! Congrats on your little baby boy!!! So excited for you!! Can't wait to see pictures!! He may be afraid at first but give him some time and he will adjust. Offer him salmon oil as a peace offering. lol I offered mine tiny little pieces of raw beef too.
If you are feeding him any kibble just don't keep it in his cage with the raw. Either one or the other.

As I explained in another post the only reason I'm giving him any kibble right now is because I dont have the organs in yet to go straight to raw. Since white tripe had next to no nutrition I see no point in buying it for him. He picked his poop corner so I moved one the litter boxes there and no accidents since. Also he isn't scared one bit. The moment I picked him up in the pet store he was licking me. When I want him to come to me I just have to put my hand out. Gave him some play time yesterday and it was pretty much non stop war dancing, dooking and hand wrestling.

Glad he is adjusting well!! You will build an amazing bond with him. I have only 1 ferret myself and we have just the most amazing bond!!

DiNozzo sleeping partly on his shelf but mostly in his tube. It's the only bed he uses.

DiNozzo has his first vet appointment scheduled. He originally had one scheduled for yesterday but then they called me yesterday morning to tell me they don't do ferret vaccines. Which was super annoying because I got the vets info off 3 different ferret vet sites. So I found a new one. Originally they didn't want to do his vaccines as they are only seeing emergencies, sick animals and those who are receiving their first sets of vaccines. Which currently DiNozzo qualifies as getting his first set of vaccines. So he goes in Wednesday morning to get his Distemper vaccine.
