It’s summer here, and we just had a bad heat wave. Which means we’ve gotten an increased number of roaches in our home.
My sister especially, is terrified of roaches. But the ferrets live in her room. And the roaches are attracted to the ferrets because of food. You get the picture.
Do you have any ferret safe ways to repel or kill roaches? (Beyond smacking them with some hard)

Hi,
Both catnip and peppermint are effective roach deterrents.
I know that ferrets are ok around catnip, not sure about mint, but seeing as catnip is part of the mint family, it should be ok.
You could make a spray bottle of water, white vinegar and crushed peppermint leaves. As an added bonus you would scare off any spiders in the process.
Cheers

I use a couple commercial grade insecticides, and according to their safety data sheets, why aren't harmful to mammals except in much greater concentrations and dosages than you use to fight roaches. Roaches are very tenacious. Good luck.

What ratio of water to vinegar and mint is suitable? A lot of us use a 50:50 mix of water and white vinegar for cleaning, so I would start with that. I would then smash up a fist full mint leaves and add the pulp to the mix, allow it it to sit for a few hours and then strain it into a spray bottle. A bit of trial and error may be needed to get the right amount of mint. Cheers
