Hi all, so my business has had some major changes. It went from 3 ferrets (2 girls 1 boy), 2 humans, and a 1 bedroom apartment down to 2 ferrets (girls), 1 human, and a bedroom. Missy has adjusted well but Ellie is still having difficulties. She really misses the others and she doesn’t like where we are living. I let them out of the room when I’m home but there is a dog downstairs that she is absolutely terrified of. She won’t go far from my room and her and missy don’t play together anymore. She also used to be the wild spunky stubborn one but now she’s the timid sleepy one :,(
I’ve been spending more one on one time with her which she seems to be enjoying but she is still not her old self. Most of the time if I’m not actively engaging with her she goes back to sleep and she will only ever play with me.
So what am I doing wrong? She’s been like this for 3 months now and I’m not sure if she will ever get her spark back. I love the little girl and I hate seeing her like this

That's a lot of changes. I'm sorry you're dealing with all of that. whose dog is it? Thanks! Yeah it’s been hard on everyone. I guess I didn’t realize how sensitive Ellie was because she always acted so tough. The dog is my parents. She’s the sweetest 13 year old lab that is also terrified of the ferrets. It’s kinda funny when the two run into each other they both turn tail and run. Missy likes her but it’s not mutual 😅

It is a lot to deal with. And odds of her going back to herself are pretty remote Something that might help a bit is Bach's rescue remedy. I'd start putting 8-10 drops into her water with every change.

So I thought I’d post an update on how Ellie is doing. She is definitely making progress but I think that Sherry is right when she said that Ellie might not completely go back to her old self. But it doesn’t mean that she has to be sad or sleepy all the time either. I’ve been working on getting her less terrified of the dog (Casey) by just having her in Casey’s room when she’s not there and cuddling her while Casey is sleeping nearby. It seems to be working too! She is starting to tolerate it and isn’t frantically running and hiding if she catches a whiff of Casey’s scent. It seems to help overall too when she gets outside of my room. She has actually started coming downstairs and exploring! I’ve also been able to give her and missy a bit more space when I’m not around. My bathroom connects to another room and I’ve been allowed to leave it open for them. It’s become a play room where I can keep their toys out for them. Plus I got some packing peanuts which are a big hit! There has been much craziness in there and it’s awesome! Ellie is also starting to play and interact with Missy again which is amazing. She has become my shadow and follows me everywhere instead of just pancaking when I’m not interacting with her. Plus I have to admit that it’s nice that she is a bit less wild and stubborn. I love her cuddliness and kisses she gives me now too

So I’m super excited because me and the girls are going to go see Flint (the missing ferret) and Dan (the missing human) tomorrow. I hope that the girls will remember them and do some reunion dancing and playing. It’s been almost 6 months since we last saw them.
Ellie has been up and down. She is still scared of downstairs but I figured out something interesting. She is more scared of Casey’s scent than anything. I am tempted to bring some of Casey’s old blankets into my room to get her used to it but it could go horribly wrong.
I’ve also started adding rescue remedy to their water. It’s been about 2 weeks and the main thing I’ve noticed is that they get randomly playful. They actually start playing without me having to initiate it! It still sucks that I have to divide my time between Missy wanting to play outside my room and Ellie wanting to play inside but it’s progress!
