One of my ASF rats girls died today another did as well several weeks back. The symptoms were the same. They stretched out on their belly with back legs stretched out behind them and could not move but just their heads. This female could move her tail though. So, I decided to gut and see if she had ate bedding and maybe there was a blockage. What I did find was a gas pocket in intestine. Also some grated up carrot which was not given today. There was a few little tiny brown specks---maybe the quinoa or the flax seed. I will not be feeding carrots anymore or quinoa. Oh yeah, another thing that she ate was orange was bell pepper. so maybe no more of that. My Buddy rejected the rattie, and he is the one I am doing this for, as he does not do well on birds---little booger. edit: On closer inspection I see he did eat the back legs off:)

are you sure the stomach wasn't twisted? Almost looks to have been in that pic.

I did not even look for the stomach. I just assumed it was the intestine. If it happens again, I will do that. Hope it is not caused by one of the grains I am feeding.
