Is it okay to use Epi-Oric Advanced cleaning solution for the ferrets ears? My ferrets do not let me clean their ears no matter how hard I try & I know they have been itching them lately and are irritated with wax build up. Is this safe to use? Read on amazon a few people do use this & it’s fine but want to be 100%. us.virbac.com/epi-otic-advanced-ear-cleanser

I've never used any sort of cleaning solution so I'm afraid I can't comment on it; however that degree of itchiness/sensitivity would make me wonder if they have ear mites (easily contracted, it just happens), or an infection, which should be treated asap. Either one requires a veterinary diagnosis. Their ears are waxy by nature so buildup alone wouldn't cause that.

I would go to vet and see if they have mites as mites can permanently damage ferrets eardrums. My Annabelle had mites and did not have the nasty dark color---I am sure it would have eventually turned. It surprised my vet. A veterinarian may want to rule out other problems, including fleas, dermatitis, or other bacterial or parasitic infections prior to diagnosing an ear mite infection. However, a veterinarian can easily identify an ear mite infection by conducting a routine ear examination, swabbing a sample of earwax, and looking through a microscope for the organism(s). vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/ferrets-ear-mites Because the medicine has no effect on the mite eggs, the treatment routine will be repeated every one to two weeks, allowing the mite eggs to reach maturation (which takes approximately three weeks). The tip of the ferret's tail should also be treated because ferrets sleeps with their tail near their ears... if there are other dogs, cats or ferrets in the house, they, too, must be treated for ear mites, as the mites can be very contagious. www.petmd.com/ferret/conditions/ears/c_ft_ear_miteswww.petmd.com/ferret/conditions/ears/c_ft_ear_mites?page=2

a vet can dx ear mites pretty quick. My comment was more for maintenance/prevention. Like heartworm meds for dogs. It's something we just do on a regular basis
