Hello, long time no see. I've recently adopted 2 male ferrets to join our little family they are about 5-6 months. I got one eating duck necks immediately the other had no interest, I waited it out trying to offer him food I'm assuming he didn't eat any over the night, so I went with the soup method he ate it right away along with the others and then less than 5 minutes he immediately vomited it back up, forcefully. I wasn't able to leave but I had my sister take him to a vet that takes exotics for me, of course the vet went on to tell my sister how ferrets shouldn't be on a raw diet and he's going to get salmonella. They are giving him 10 ml cerenia injection and sending him on his way.
I'm not sure what to do now moving forward with his diet as I don't want to make him vomit like that again, chicken allergy maybe?
Also i've been have to watch him like a hawk he seems to have a very high need to chew fabric, I can't imagine him being bored he has friends, a rice box, tunnels, bags etc. I was thinking maybe he was just hungry he kind of has like a squeaker toy reaction but there's no squeakers?

Update: I figured out the vomit issue, he's allergic to beef.

The type of vomiting seems to indicate allergy. Also, the fabric chewing could be from a number of reasons. That would be something medical like ulcers, bad teeth, to psychological issues like pica, down to behavioural like boredom. If it is consistent I would rule out medical reasons first.

@sherry Yeah i'm pretty positive that the issue is a beef allergy. He doesn't seem to have any other medical symptoms once you rule out the beef issue so i'm leaning towards pica or maybe just teething? Either way i'll be keeping an eye on it.

Teething for a ferret should be over by about 4-5 m old max. It could also be he just likes the feeling of the material against his teeth. If it gets bad, you can always look at replacing all the softer fabrics with harder ones like denim. One member here had to go so far as to remove ALL cloth, and just used shredded paper sleeping dens. Her lad had immune system issues, so continuously had dental and stomach problems.
