Hello everyone! I haven't posted on here in awhile. All four ferret babies are doing wonderfully on Frankenprey. We figured out Momo's allergies with hooved prey, so we've been sticking to chicken, turkey, duck, rabbit and occasional salmon. Everyone's been doing great.
However, I am switching them from Frankenprey to commercial grinds. After lots of calculations and weighing the pros and cons, I came to the decision. The amount of food that was being wasted due to stashing was a whole lot. I was willing to keep the stashed food out till they ate it, but sometimes they never ate it. In a very small rented apartment, the smell was getting out of hand. I was afraid they weren't getting the proper balance. I tried stash boxes, feeding them in the cage etc but they are 24/7 free roamers right now. We live in a basement and the amount of bugs that come to feast on that meat...lol.
So, I purchased three varieties from Hare Today. Rabbit, duck and turkey. I want to add another, but with Momo's allergies I will have to wait and see. They do have chicken, quail and pheasant options but the quail and pheasant do not follow the 80/10/10. I also wanted to phase out chicken.
1. turkey: hare-today.com/product/raw_pet_food/ground_turkeybonesorgans_1_lb_fine_ground
2. rabbit: hare-today.com/product/raw_pet_food/ground_rabbitbonesorgans_1_lb_fine_ground
3. duck: hare-today.com/product/raw_pet_food/ground_duckbonesorgans_1_lb_fine_ground
All follow the 80/10/10. The rabbit has a bit more bone and a bit less meat.
I DID choose the COARSE grind option over the FINE. My main concern is oral health. I figured the coarse option would be better for their teeth.
My question is...
Am I able to do the grinds and supplement it with duck necks or chicken feet to keep their teeth in tip top shape? Or will it throw them off balance? If so, How many should I feed and how often?
