I'm a new ferret owner. I have always wanted one, but lived a majority of my life in California. Our son got a ferret last year and he's so cute and hilarious. Of course I started wanting one too, but wasn't in a hurry to run out and buy one.
I got Koda a couple months ago, I made the mistake of going into the store with my daughter to look at something else. Koda was asleep on the floor of his pet store cage, a big guy, gray, looked older, but he was a young thing according to his Marshall brochure. I instantly fell in love. We put down a deposit for him because I didn't come prepared to buy a new pet ($230!!), and then came back the next day to take him home.
I also bought the "ferret kit" (cage, Marshall food, corner litter box, water bottle, cheap hammock, etc, etc). Huge mistake and waste of money! But I didn't know any better at the time. The cage was really for a chinchilla and not ferret friendly even in the least. Koda is now in a dog crate that has an upper level. It's plenty big, but he spends most of his time out of it. I had to attach wire to the outside because he can squeeze through the bars. I'm hoping to score him a ferret nation or maybe hubby will build something. Koda sleeps in his crate at night and stays in there if we have to go somewhere, which is usually for just a couple hours. We work from home so Koda doesn't have to spend much time in his crate. During the day he takes naps in my sock drawer.
I also got a female kitten a few days before the ferret and those two are BFFs, they play and explore all day long, it's like having toddlers all over again! They are never left unattended. We also have 2 male cats, the boys do play with Koda some, but mostly they watch him, they are still scared of him a little. I never leave them alone with Koda, not even for a minute.
We have other pets too: 2 dogs, chickens, ducks, bunnies, and pet rats (daughter's).
Anyway, I also joined some FB and MeWe groups. I mostly came here to learn, but I also don't want to get deleted for not participating and just reading (if you do that).
