hard to say. coud be a small ulcer, could be a tear. Pred would help repair that kind of stuff pretty quick, and a tear could/would be caused by a large solid stool. just give him a hug for me

Glad to read that it has passed. Did he look like he was in any pain? This was not the news I was looking to read other then his fur growing in more and BG doing better. Is he still eating well? A hemorrhoid or an ulcer? Can't think of anything else that could cause blood in the stool. Well actually I could but have never heard of any pets having them. lol

I was worried it could be colon cancer or a sharp item lodged in his lower intestine, but if it stopped bleeding it wasn’t either. He never showed any pain pooping and never lost his appetite.

Let's hope it doesn't happen again. Fingers crossed for Winnipeg! Give him some snuggles from me and Charlie!

Something that could ease some stress in the body is clay. Zeolite Clinoptilolite clay is great at detox, removes heavy metals, and soothes the stomach lining. Wild animals in jungles eat clay when they feel sick due to poisonous plants. It doesn't cause harm, so I think it could be something that could help his over all health a bit. Every bit counts though. "zeolites occur when volcanoes erupt and lava flows into both salt and fresh water lakes, creating a unique mineral. One of the few negatively-charged minerals in nature, zeolites (specifically clinoptilolite zeolite) feature a unusual cage-like structure that naturally draws into itself positively charged particles like mercury, cadmium, lead, arsenic and other heavy metals, as well as chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, carcinogens, allergens and pre-viral components. Once trapped within the zeolite’s “cage”, these harmful substances are excreted from the body safely and naturally." animalwellnessmagazine.com/zeolites-dog/

Odd development, about two weeks ago I switched from pork to beef in his ground mix and about a week after that he ate half his food one night and never went back to it, I had to resort to feeding him eggs 100% of the time and the diarrhea has been so bad. I mix in a liver, calcium, fish oil, and other things powder so he’s getting more nutrients than just a plain egg provides but I know he can’t live on it forever. I’ve been unable to source ground pork again and just finally found a grocery store who’ll grind some for me, I pick it up in half an hour. We’ll see if he eats it.

He ate about half of his pork lunch while I was out, which is more than the beef but still not great, I’ll see if I can get him to eat more of it tonight.

I've had some accept pork but none ever took to beef. I mean muscle and fat. But they all liked poultry, whether grinds or gizzards and organs.

He used to love beef, it was his favourite. He likes turkey more than chicken but will choose pork over both. He’s better now! There was another desperate egg feeding that night just to get food and moisture into him but last night and this morning he ate all of his regular grinds happily in one sitting. I think it was a bout of food poisoning from bad meat and I’m gonna ask for some antibiotics to knock it fully out when I go to the vet later today and start sprinkling probiotics into his food for a while. He’s still having loose stool but it’s manageable now, the egg diarrhea was explosive and foamy, and he couldn’t control when he went very well.

Back from the vet, BG of 91 six and a half hours after food and meds. Got metronidazole, giving him 0.5 mLs twice a day for the next week. Prednisolone was further decreased to 0.2 mLs. No fur update this time because as far as I can tell he’s maxed out hair growth on this dose and I don’t want to go higher.

Do you think the meat was spoiled? My ferret hasn't been eating his normal food either. He's become very picky. He still loves his beef and pork. He didn't really like chicken and ate turkey but now that has switched and he eats chicken grinds but doesn't like turkey now. I don't know if their taste buds change. Mice were also a fav and now he only eats half of a mouse.
What kind of probiotics do you give Winnie?

It looked and smelled normal to me, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t bad. I’m currently giving him lactobacillus acidophilus.

If you can slowly bump up the melatonin it will help with the coat. ferrets sleep 20+ hours anyway, so I encourage you to try it. In my experience the first des implant didn't help with coat without melatonin or lupron.
