No, don't do surgery The nature of the condition is that there may be a tumor or 2 big enough to remove, and you might even get sway with removing up to 1/3 of the organ, but the cancer affects the Islets of Langerhans, which are microscopic structures throughout the pancreas, so it's most likely to be a temp fix. The pred is the best treatment. Our Abita (Beedee) has been on a low dose for over 2 years, and tomorrow is her 7th birthday. She's doing fine.
I don't understand how there wasn't enough blood for a glucose test. It's the same test that diabetics do a few times a day. The AlphaTrak II glucometer only requires a tiny drop of blood. It can be done at home with proper training. Our vet charges $20 for it. It takes a minute to prep and reads in a few seconds. No lab involved.
