As of late I've been having a hard time finding some of my meats for Charlie. So I decided I will be doing more whole prey mixed in. This is what I have put together. I'd like to make sure this is right and that I am incorporating whole prey properly.
Mon AM Turkey (neck or back) Bone-In
PM Beef (meat only - muscle meal)
Tues AM Mouse (usually 2) Whole Prey
PM Pork Riblets Bone-In
Whole Egg (usually add an egg on a day where he has 2 bone-in meals to keep stools firm)
Wed AM Rabbit Bone-In
PM Heart
Thur AM Mouse (usually 2) Whole Prey
PM Beef (meat only - muscle meal)
Fri AM Turkey (neck or back) Bone-In
PM Pork Riblets Bone-In
Sat AM Mouse (usually 2) Whole Prey
PM 1/2 Liver, 1/2 Kidney
Sun AM Rabbit Bone-In
PM Pork Riblets Bone-In
I seem to be having a hard time getting turkey necks and backs lately so I'd thought I try chicken with bone-in again and see if he will eat it. He doesn't seem to be a fan of chicken so I hope I can get turkey again. But we have had a market on Thursday nights here so I'm going to see about finding other meats for him there. If the pheasant people show up I'm going to see about getting some of that, however with that being said, I don't know how feasible it will be because they tend to be expensive.
He still has 5 different meats (beef, mouse, turkey or chicken, pork and rabbit). From what I read, if I put in 1 whole prey meal that replaces a muscle meal and if I put in a 2nd whole prey that replaces a bone-in meal. And with a 3rd whole prey meal that replaces a 1/2 heart and 1/4 liver and 1/4 kidney meal. Am I correct? So he should still get 1 heart meal and 1 1/2 liver and 1/2 kidney meal.
I find when he has whole prey (his mice) he has much better stools!! They are very well formed and firm, whereas even with bone-in meals they do not look like his whole prey stools. And from the looks of his whole prey stools, it looks to me like it really cleans out his digestive system real well!
