what is holding up that silk Plant?

Last night I did another protocol on my boy. This is second one in several days(mop string before).
Happen to be moving a cage into the living room when I happened to pass by the stool which had my silk plant on it. I always warn people about soft toys with styrofoam beads after guest long ago said his ferret passed away after tearing into a toy that had styrofoam beads in it.

I would be very tempted if this is your wee lads end game, to be vetting on this one. I've seen the damage done by these beads and often they do not all pass. A barium xray would be recommended as I don't believe this shows up on a standard xray.

Thanks Heather---I contacted my vet she said she would be in this weekend and gave me her number. she wants me to keep up the vaseline and pumpkin. If he makes little squirts or vomiting or not wanting to eat or lethargic or mucousy stools to give her a call. (Mucous in stools he does have after the pumpkin passed).

I have switched from vaseline to ferret lax as he does eat it up. I know it has sugar in it ---but his last insulinoma test when I got him a DES the other day showed 105. So he does not have in insulinoma. Do u think the vaseline will do better?


I have not seen any styrofoam beads in stool --although that may mean nothing.
He did eat some guinea pig this morn.

The reason for not using the ferret lax is the sugars....even if his BG is normal it's not saying it won't trigger insulinoma later. Hopefully, he didn't eat any of that foam. You should know within 4 hrs. but 8 at the most. Floating blockages are always a concern which is why I suggested the barium

I will mix quail yolk in the vaseline instead since he does like quail egg and dispose the lax.


I mentioned barium xray but she did not seem to understand it as a means of pushing things or at least that is how I interpreted her reluctance. I do not understand it that much so I could not really state a case. She was for the vaseline and pumpkin that I did for the mop string and wanted me to continue that.  So we will see what happens.

A barium will give you more accurate pics as it's a liquid that is administered and then tracked through a series of xrays over a period of time as it works through the digestive tract. Not only does it make for clearer pics (it actually highlights blockages), it also can help push things through and many times has managed to remove the need for surgery.

So I called another vet---the one that put Annabelle out to give her a des implant.
Anyway---I called about a barium x-ray as my vet seems hesitant. I did drop off the pooh this morning with her and have not heard anything back yet. I would have never noticed it---if it wasn't for those good ole paper towels.

The question is--- should I have him on muscle meals a couple days prior as the bone will show up in the xray won't it?

Bone will show up in the xray. My vet used to love trying to track when my ferret was fed and was a bit surprised as to the fact that the bone could still be in their system a lot longer than what the whole 4 hrs turn around claimed. The one thing about bone is it will show up blockages as it becomes clumps, the bad thing is you will either get a lecture or they will mistake the bone for beads I would be tempted to feed muscle meat with bone meal for a couple of days if that's your concern

update:
By the time I got back with the other vet this afternoon to set up to an appointment--they were booked. Would have had to made an appointment for Friday and then schedule his x-ray the next week.

So my vet said she would do it. I will drop him off at 8:00 in morning.
His stool sample showed no parasites.
