Looks like kitties are FINALLY going to be raw fed, after all this time With Evo degrading like it is, I was looking at all my options, cost wise. Do you realize it will cost me the same to feed them canned as it will to feed them commercial raw? That's a no brainer for me ;D Anyway- Watson has always enjoyed his raw treats. Stubbs can't have anything with feathers, which pretty much rules out any bone in foods that an 18 year old cat could eat(short of whole prey, and that's too expensive!). And he seems to tolerate the lamb well. Ligiea helped herself to the ground turkey yesterday(ferret's), had some NV lamb last night, wasn't as fond of it straight up, so mixed a patty between the 3 of them this morning. Yes, she lost her breakfast, but I know sometimes there will be some purging involved. And best news of all? My kibble head Herne LOVES Wysong's Archtypal 1 ferret!!! I gave him some rehydrated, and he ate pretty much all of it ;D If we can get him eating JUST that, then I can start looking at mixing a bit of raw in over time. And even if he won't take that- ONE on freeze dried is affordable

Awesome! Congrats and good luck convincing them. I know it can be harder with cats, we got lucky with the dogs. My little girl just stopped eating kibble and demanded the good stuff lol

I originally tried switching the cats a few months after switching the ferrets originally. I didn't have much luck, but continued to give raw treats when they asked. For a long time, Stubbs couldn't tolerate what I'd given him. Any feathered animal causes him extreme vomiting, and we made the decision to simply give a good quality canned because of his age. The fact he's tolerating the lamb is wonderful! I do know beef also makes him vomit, so we'll also keep away from beef and bison. Still leaves a fair bit of variety, so we'll keep on with it this time

Congrats on the decision. I found rabbit sat well with my old fart kibble head. He spent almost 8 months, maybe a year before a second protein could be found that he tolerated. I found it totally by accident (rabbit, it was something that little Mischief decided he needed for his IBD). In the end he could eat chicken, rabbit and turkey. I decided to use a couple of supplements when he was eating just the chicken but it obviously didn't hurt him to feed him that way. He was 12 when I finally got him switched, he passed on at 22, not bad for a cat who had been diagnosed with kidney failure at 11. ciao

Agreed! Our old guy is as healthy as the proverbial horse(at least he has been since we got him off the crap vet food), but senile as could be ;D And believe me, I've been wanting to do this for a very long time. It just seems that everything has finally come together

Well, good news, and not unexpected news on the diet switch front for kitties The three on canned are devouring the NV lamb mixed with canned. I had to up the amount of raw today, because they are all but inhaling it ;D Herne, however(my kibblehead), has decided he no longer wants the Wysong's by itself, in fact will NOT touch the food dish, unless it's well mixed in with his bit of wet food he's willing to take Brat won't touch the food dish with the wet in it unless his kibble is sitting right there as well. Oddest cat I've come across. He'll start out fine with a wet food, and gradually eat less, and less, and less until he goes anorexic. So- he's keeping the kibble(at least for a while), and just getting the freeze dried mixed with his d*mned Fancy Feast(only wet he'll eat) This cat drives me to distraction. Got him 1/2 way to raw before- went anorexic, had to syringe feed to bring him back. Got him 1/2 way to wet food? Anorexic, had to syringe feed . So, looks like the plan is going to be sprinkling a bit of Wysong's dry on the kibble, mixing a bit into the 1/4 can of FF he'll mostly eat, and see what happens.

Wellness. So at least it's a good kibble His big problem is hairballs. He refuses to throw them up, and doesn't poop them out, so they build. We've gone a few days at a time in the past(when on vet food) where he refused all food, and we gave him(per vet instructions) a tsp of lax 3 or 4 times a day til it all came out. As crappy as FF is, at least he's getting some extra moisture, and hasn't had the same problems for a while now.
