I started the switch today for my two ferrets. They are around 1 year old a boy and girl. I got them from a ferret rescue a week ago. They were on a kibble that was a mix of three different kibbles wyson and orijen were two of them. Anyways i just kept them on their diet they were on until today. Took their kibble around noon while they were sleeping and made a puree with some chunks of boneless chicken thigh. They showed some interest in the chunks but seemed like they didnt know what to do with it in their mouth? So i put the puree on my finger amd they reallllly liked that. Licked it off my finger like it was the best stuff ever. I continued finger feeding them right where their food bowl is for the next couple hours. Once they had about a half ounce i decided to try more organ meats. So i left them with theur puree and they evemtually got to playing. After maybe an hour i went and got a split chicken wing and smashed it with a hammer really mushy. They were not to interested in eating the bigger bone pieces. Dumbledore the male actually had that confused look again and went and stashed a big piece when he had it in his mouth. After he left the feeding area to play again i put it back in the food dish and went and prepared a mixed puree with a big piece of boneless thigh. and a split chicken wing smashed into almost a mush with a hammer, a chicken heart, a chicken liver, a gizzard, and just a little bit of water until it was about apple sauce consistency. Then i again hand fed them and they ABSOLUTELY LOVED it. They both probably had a good half ounce of that finger fed. Once they ate that much i put the food in the food area of the cage and let them play. As the night came to an end my girl Luna went to eat and ate some more from the bowl and went to bed. Im about to take out the food now and in a couple hours before i go to bed put in some fresh stuff in.
The bone is what im a little nervous about. Im assuming i can trust my ferret wont eat something it cant? Can i get a bone from the pet store for them?
Ill be watching their poops closely the next day to make sure they are consistent.
Any tips?
