So Rockie has a hairball she's couching a little bit and I'm trying to get her to have some Extra Virgin Olive Oil since that is the only thing we have on hand right now and she wan'ts NOTHING to do with it AT ALL!! I tried scuffing her and she lifts her hind feet and pushes the cup away and she boxes it with her front paws leaving it on the floor. Bear loves it though lol! He's going to town! What can I do to make her take it? I split it on her belly on accident and she didn't lick it she rubbed it off in her freshly clean liter box and bedding lol. Maybe if I mix in some ferretone??

She still hates it but I got her to take some. I think she's mad at me now. When should I get worried and when should it pass?

If she has a hairball I'd get some pumpkin or squash asap. Olive oil helps soothes the throat but I'm not sure how effective it is alone** to pass hairballs.
Try mixing the EVOO with something she likes, maybe another oil?

Do you have any salmon oil? They seem to like that better than extra virgin olive oil. Might help to mix a bit of that in with the EVOO like Jackie suggested. But you definitely need the pumpkin too. The oil will lube up her pipes but you really need the fiber to push the hairball through. As a last resort you could give some vaseline to try push it through if the pumpkin and oil doesn't work. My girls LOVE the taste of vaseline for some weird reason

What makes you think she has a hairball? Is she straining to go in her box, and can't? If so- that's a blockage, and an emergency. You def. Need to get some sort of fiber in her, whether pumpkin, or some other squash, even baby food. Also, Vaseline will help to push it through if she's blocked up. With pumpkin you should see a nice orange stool in 3-4 hours. If she has no results, or if she just keeps curling up to sleep, won't take favorite treats, etc. Get her to the vet sooner rather than later.

I think the orginal post says that Rockie has been "coughing", but that there was a typo and it came out as "couching".

I don't know if this applies here, but I notice that Ron and Ginny, having started to eat soupie, have been "coughing" more than they have been. Could this be due to the new consistency of their food? Anyone else notice this?

It's like she is trying to cough up hair. She's acting normal and I haven't seen any poop straining. I'll try the pumpkin and then Vaseline.

Sorry- I though you meant "crouching", as in curling up around her tummy ;D Yeah, if she's coughing with a hair stuck in her throat, try her with a touch of lax, a taste of oil, then maybe 1ml of water syringed sideways in her mouth. That's what works for Lucrezia. She has one heck of a time with that.

Sorry for the delay. No more coughing. She really didn't take anything I gave her so I don't know what happened. But she's all good

At least it went away on it's own . Maybe she just had a hair stuck, and got rid of it.
