Hi all.
My sweet little girl Grapes has had a "puffy neck" for a little over a month now. When I feel the sides...I dont feel any lumps..and nothing hard. But definitely noticeably puffy. She isnt fat, shes pretty petite. So I couldn't really blame it on fat rolls.
Along with the puffiness, she has a red pimple like dot on the right side of her neck. When googled, it appears to resemble a mast cell tumor.
Grapes hasnt shown any physical changes since this puffiness appeared. She's always been a little quieter than normal. Shes been eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom fine.
I guess the only thing I can say is it seems like she flinches a bit when I pick her up. Like something may be hurting her when pressed.
I brought her to the vet yesterday and obviously lymphoma was brought up. She said she felt swollen lymphnodes near her hind legs. The vets first suggestion was bloodwork. And we would go from there.
I received a call this morning letting me know that her bloodwork came in and these were the findings:
-white blood cell count not elevated
-55% of the wbc present are lymphocytes
-reactive lymphocytes present
-red blood cells slightly elevated
She suggested a biopsy or xray as our next steps.
I was hoping to get someones thoughts on how to proceed with this.
I'm in a little bit of shock because as far as I was aware, Grapes is only a little over a year old. And when I read about juvenile and adult onset lymphoma, I feel like she doesnt match the symptoms of the juvenile form at all.
I've never dealt with this before so I was hoping to get some advice on what I've put here. I spent almost $300 on an exam and bloodwork alone...so these next steps suggested are most likely going to cost a pretty penny. And this vet is somewhat notorious for high rates and suggesting more procedures $$. Its not that I mind spending money to help my pets...I obviously just want to spend it in the most effective way possible and dont want to be taken advantage of.
I look forward to any responses, thank you.
