Hello! A couple days ago I went to pull out Eden for the day and I noticed there was some dried blood on one of his back toenails. He was fine when I put him in there the night before. There was a tiny spec of blood in the cage but barely able to be called a spec. I cleaned his toe up and it seemed alright, like maybe it was just a small crack. I've been looking over it since and the only thing I'd noticed is it pokes out to the side a little bit, but it doesn't seem to bother him at all. There's no difference in his movement and personality. Today when I checked up on it I noticed it looks like there's almost a new nail growing in it's place? I'll attach a photo. Let me know what you think! Thank you for your time

That's so weird. Is it still attached?

I know, I've never seen anything like it. They're both attached, his original nail is discoloured from when it bled. I'll attach another photo of a frontal angle. I did book a vet visit for this Friday to get it properly looked at, I was just wondering if anyone here might have any ideas. Very odd to me! Either way I'll update this thread after the visit, the more knowledge the better!

It could have been split or partially detached and the nail is just growing normally under it. It could have got caught on something, like bedding. Just keep an eye on it. It will probably just fall off eventually, or you may have to trim it.

**Update** unclejoe you are absolutely right! The vet said his nail must have split on something or while he was digging. The old piece at this point was barely hanging on so she just knocked it off and gave me some ointment to apply to make sure it doesn't get infected. Other than that it should heal up fine on its own!
