His little girl has been losing weight and when he got home from work she couldn't even lift her head. He asked me if he should take her to the nearby none exotic vet that could stabilize her but nothing more or drive over an hour to a vet that knows ferrets. Told him to take hour drive.
No odd poops found, but my son has been working 60+ hours a week so not sure if she has been pooping.
She receives regular vet care, it is just currently after hours.
Her brothers seem fine physically but clearly worried about her.
She was on marshalls but convinced him to switch to a high quality kibble in September from the mooredooks chart.
Any other questions I should ask?
And yup I am a grandfetrent now.

how old is your ferret ---I am not sure how young they can be to get insulinoma---but kibble fed ferrets usually develop insulinoma(low blood sugar). U might want to get blood drawn. I prefer the blood draw than the prick at least for the initial diagnosis. Reason being there was a discrepancy at the vets with one of my ferrets between the prick and blood drawn, anyway my vet(exotic) said latter was more accurate. They may had not got a good sample ---but because he was so young they decided to draw blood to make sure.
Insulinoma is a common condition of middle-aged to older ferrets. These tumors of the pancreas cause an increase in the secretion of insulin, which leads to severely low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). ... Commonly, ferrets with insulinoma experience gradually progressive weakness and lethargy over weeks to months.

Its a blockage. The want to hold her for 3 days $1,200 and then $2000 for the surgery, that seems excessive to me as they only kept Gilly overnight and her blockage surgery was $1,500 total.
My heart is breaking for my son. He has been trying so hard to be the best ferret he can and as a responible but struggling young man this is a huge blow to him. Please keep him and Remy in your thoughts and prayers. It's one thing to go through this with your own ferrets but seeing your adult child go through it when you know exactly what it feels like when it comes to our furbabbies almost feels worse.

And yes, I have talked to him all about switching to raw. He is working two jobs trying to make it on his own, so he doesn't feel he has enough hours in the day to put into it yet. If we lived close by I would do all the prep for him but...

Hope all turns out well for your little ferret. Prayers and good thoughts for your son too.
I hope I did not sound condemning over feeding kibble as raw has its drawbacks too (finding bone meals if ferret allergic to chicken and other poultry)
keep us updated
