The time to realize my dream of owning a ferret has finally come! i moved to Montana from California recently and I now have the time and space for a pet. Health is my primary concern so, does anyone know of somewhere nearby I can adopt some healthily breed ferrets? I don't mind having to cross a few state lines but the fewer the better.

Heather, nancyl who would be closer? Most breeders will want to do an interview with you to see if you would be a good fit for their wee ones. You could also check out dookerz on the move on facebook. They help rehome ferrets around the world.

I'm not super comfortable crossing the boarder, I've only been outside the country once. Do you know any within the US? I'm open to rehoming but I'm very wary of getting Marshalls ferrets.

Nancy is in the US So is Pam Overloop, another breeder. And if you've never had a ferret before, tbh a Marshall's is much better/easier to start with. They've generally been bred for passivity, although there certainly are exceptions And the best thing about rescued is giving a foster a forever home

I wouldn't place a ferret with a completely inexperienced owner. I would strongly recommend that you start with a MF ferret to get some experience. I don't know if there are any shelters anywhere near you but shelters always need adopters and shelter ferrets come in all ages and histories and always seem grateful for a home.

Thanks for the advice. I've joined the dookerz on the move fb page, seems like it gets multiple people posting daily. Waiting for someone nearby to appear
