I have a little girl who's been having some issues with runny poops. After look at other things, i feel it may be a food that she is reacting too.
First tried chicken, soup and chunks, poops were still runny after 5/6 days, so switched to a turkey soup, she's had to meals of this, poops were pure liquid, greenish (much worse then on chicken)
My question is how long does it take to know for sure. I know their systems are quick, but is two meals enough to say no to the turkey? and to try another meat? Could it be that turkey and chicken are too close?
Thanks

My boys were showing symptoms of a food triggered tummy upset - sticky black poops solid but not right, kind of the consistency of jello. Chicken was my first guess (its the most common for even dogs). They have been off chicken for two weeks now and they have had perfect poops this entire week. I'd say give each new protein source atleast two weeks before ruling it out

You mention meat....are you feeding bone? egg shell? You mention soupy but what's in that soupy as well as that protein source. Though it does happen it is not that common to have a protein sensitivity. 2 weeks is the standard format for illimination diet but nothing else should be there either. Just that protein source. ciao

It takes 6 weeks.
and to have a REAL elimiation diet, you should try to get a protein that has never been fed before. and obviously feed only that for 6 weeks.

The soup has turkey, olive oil, bone meal, water. I mix it with pumpkin and kefir (she was on antibiotics so using the kefir to rebuild her gut).
My concern is leaving her on this for any length of time, when she is having such runny poops.

Get rid of the olive oil. As I understand, everyone that uses olive oil uses it like you would ferret-lax. Use a fish or salmon oil that she can actually digest

Lamb is a GREAT meat to use if you think your girl has a food sensitivity. It is not impossible, but very uncommon, for them to be sensitive to lamb. It is a gentle meat. Ae is Rabbit. If you can put her on lamb and/or rabbit for a few weeks see what that does. Also adding some bones or bone replacement (temporary ONLY) as well as a source of fiber such as canned pumpkin and flax might help. Thanks for a bit of summary on that thread, the ibd thread is very overwhelming to read through, I've tried lol. She of course does not like rabbit, and the ground lamb is hard to come by and way to expensive. I'll check out my raw pet food place see if they have any in, they did not when i did my big order a few weeks ago.

Oh and she does get bone meal in the soup, as she is still on ground meats, and wont touch bones yet.

I was going to suggest Katt's IBD thread but she beat me to it! I would say 2 weeks is the minimum time frame, that way the body has time to "detox" and adjust to that particular source of protien.

How long has she been off the antibiotics, what was she on it for, and what was her stool like during that time?

Good question sherrylynne. I have another one...or a statement. I've given up using kefir....I find that a lot of my brats react to it with loose disgusting poops, they just don't tolerate it very well. Soupy....use your meat, your bonemeal or egg shell (1/2 tsp for 8 oz), your pumpkin (about 1 tsp) water to texture or broth....nothing else. See what happens ciao

Both her and zeke had runny poops and lethergy after trixie died. Vet could not find anything wrong but we did antibiotics anyways.... well I kept her on them, zeke threw it up so i didn`t force it on him. SHe finished the first round of antibiotics and her poops were good during, normal size consistency etc. within 24hr of stopping the runs were back. DId a second round of antibiotics, again poops stabilized (one seedy poop while on them) to normal and good size. DUring the last round i had switched her to just chicken protien. Again within 24hrs of stopping the med the runs were back. So thinking more it's what she is eating then any bug. she's been off for about a week. Again 2 weeks is what I was thinking for each protien, but is that not too long to go with such runny poops? I dont want to make her sicker, she is such a tiny thing already. Thanks for all the input!

oh and one of the weird things she does when her poops were good, ... for her 1lb 10ozs she poops more and bigger then both boys combined. ??
It seems like they hardly poop at all compared to her piles.

okay i found ground lamb and lamb spleen. Going to try it today and go from there, I can`t leave her on the turkey any longer. Her poops are still liquid and she is sleeping more then normal.
