I found a store here in town that sells raw ground up meats for cats and dogs. I went to check it out and I even got a pound of ground up duck to try with Charlie. The first pound was free! That was really nice of them! It does have bone it in but how good is it being all ground up already and now they don't have anything to really to chew/bite to help keep their teeth clean?
I'm going to try the duck with Charlie because he doesn't really take to chicken much. It's like he doesn't like it. So I've been searching for another meat to replace the chicken. They also have kangaroo, lamb, beef, pork, chicken aand rabbit. They are going to try and bring in whole rabbit. They do have duck necks so if he likes this duck I will buy him duck necks!
I don't know if I would want to give him just all ground up meat all the time. I love how clean and white his teeth a are and I know chomping on the bones keeps them nice like that.

Yes, if you're only feeding ground up raw you will have to brush their teeth at least weekly if not several times a week, as there is nothing for them to chew on. Here's a few threads with more explanation about ground raw: "Commercial Grinds", "Commercially Prepared Raw", and "Commercial Grinds?". Also, you want to be sure of the muscle/bone/organ ratio with grinds, since often those marketed for dogs have less taurine. If it's the whole animal, that's perfect.

Sounds like a great variety coming your way. However---I would continue my heart meals as i have read that taurine can ge lost in grinding---other may better know. Also I would continue several bone in meals(my vet always comments on my ferrets clean teeth which is from eating bone meals). So when you come to things like largers animals---lamb and pork and Kangaroo---are they going to make it with the correct organ, muscle, and bone ratio? Here is the alternative meal chart. Grind with (organs, heart, bone)is considered an alternative meal. holisticferretforum.com/natural-diet/raw-diet-the-meat-of-the-site/balancing-frankenprey-with-alternative-meals/

As I suspected! Not the most ideal. I think I will just stick with what I am doing now because he is good, just trying to find another meat with bone in.

Hi The duck necks will give his teeth a good work out they are normally huge so one will serve him more than once ( mine like turkey necks and goose necks too lol) a grind can be worked in to the diet as his lazy day he is still getting bone after all lol Bev

I chop up his turkey because those are big too! I wish I had an Asian market in town. I'm sure we use to have one at one point. And from the looks of it he doesn't seem to like the ground up food but I'll keep trying to find something else that he does like. Thanks Bev!
