Hey guys!
A couple of days ago I was finally able to give Bear and Bebe a sand big box but they only get to play with it when they’re under supervision and not every single day since I don’t know how being in the sand everyday may affect them. So my question is: is there something I can use in another dig box that’s safe for them? Something that I could leave out all the time? Preferably something tidy/easy to clean up. I do plan on making a bean/rice box but again I’m paranoid something is going to happen while I’m not there to watch them.
Thanks! 🎈

I have a rice dig box. He doesn't always dig in it. Sometimes he jumps in then jumps out so I'm not so sure he likes it all that much. I have to initiate play in the box. Maybe the big plastic balls are best for a dig box because then they can't eat them while alone.

Right now, they've got a rice box, a pasta box and a sand box. In a month they will probably get a leaf box and at Christmas they get a biodegradable peanuts (these are usually supervised, at least until I find out if this year's kits considered them delectable). At the moment none of them have so they get to play in them until they start to disintegrate then we get something else. Some people use those children's multicoloured plastic balls. I can't use them as Dodger likes to chew on them. Others use ping pong balls. I've used those plastic eggs. ciao

Or are they under supervision when it’s out? Also, how often do you change the sand?

I leave the boxes out 24/7. The rice/pasta box is in the living room and there are ferrets coming and going out of there 24/7. There is a pasta box in the jill's room, with the same type of access. There is a shredded paper box in the hobs' room (it like the rice absorbs odours and oils). The sand is outside in a swimming pool. I don't think I've changed the sand in a year ciao

I alternate between leaving a dig box of long grain rice and pinto beans in my ferrets' pen. I haven't ever had problems with them trying to eat it, but I do see them sleep in the box sometimes.
