Does anyone know if this kibble is at least a "better than most" kibble for ferrets? Long ago Wysong changed the recipe of the Epigen 90 and many people had health emergencies with their ferrets as a result. I see that there is a new "Digestive support" version out now, that claims to be the original formula. I'm new to the forum, and I joined with the raw transition mentoring program in mind. Seeing as that's now on hold, I will try on my own following advice I find here and elsewhere online. So this is intended to be temporary, any opinions/advice are appreciated! (at the very least I'd like to know if the Wysong ferret kibble is better than This kitten food )

My ferret did not do well on epigen 90 and it was the one with the chia seeds. This was many years ago. She stayed so small and she itched a lot ---not adrenal. Vet said there may be not enough fat in it or she that was sensitive to ingredient(s). Not saying it will be the same for your ferret.
Blue Buffalo Wilderness High Protein Grain Free, Natural Kitten Dry Cat Food
Ingredients: Deboned Chicken, Chicken Meal, Turkey Meal, Potato Starch, Fish Meal (source of Omega 3 Fatty Acids), Fish Oil (source of DHA-Docosahexaenoic Acid), Peas, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Flaxseed (source of Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids), Natural Chicken Flavor, Potatoes, Potato Protein, Sunflower Oil (source of Omega 6 Fatty Acids), Alfalfa Meal, Whole Carrots, Whole Sweet Potatoes, Cranberries, Blueberries, Barley Grass, Dried Parsley, Dried Kelp, Taurine, Yucca Schidigera Extract, L-Carnitine, L-Lysine, Turmeric, Oil of Rosemary, Beta Carotene, Vitamin A Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Niacin (Vitamin B3), d-Calcium Pantothenate (Vitamin B5), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Biotin (Vitamin B7), Folic Acid (Vitamin B9), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Calcium Ascorbate
People have noticed that peas have given their ferrets bladder stones.I do not know if it is far enough down on ingredient list to not cause problems. Maybe someone can help u with that info.
It is really not expensive or that time consuming to prepare raw if you are interested and more so if you have just 1 ferret. You can follow the same weekly meal plan once balanced. It does take some effort in learning how to feed correctly and trying to find where to get all the foods. That part was very interesting and kind of fun for me. I was little anxious at first.

I see Flax Seeds are the 10th ingredient on the Wysong Epigen, but everything before it seems to be meat. I think flax seeds at 10th is better than potato starch 4th.

The one you had, with the chia seeds, seems to be "epigen 90 dry ferret food" as opposed to "Epigen 90 Digestive Support"
