Hi everyone! I recently bought two ferret kits, fred and George. they were taken to the vet prior to me adopting them, are 7 weeks old and are brothers from the same litter I just have a couple questions about them.
Every time I pick them up to move them they make a noise somewhere between a honk and a whine, he's not in pain because he doesn't do it all the time or when I run my hand over his body he doesn't make noise or flinch.
I owned a ferret who sadly crossed the rainbow bridge so I still consider myself a new owner, is it normal for them to be cuddly and sleep all day they are playful but not nearly as much as my old ferret. Is this any reason for concern?
Final question is fred will lick (which my old ferret never did) and he'll lick for about a minute and then bite fairly hard. What is the reason for this?
Thank you in advance and sorry for the long post

Sorry for the poor grammar. Im currently typing while trying to watch two rambunctious ferrets. George is the one who whines most when moved but Neither one of them show any other signs of pain.

Whenever I pick up my ferret she makes little happy dooking noises if she's been in her cage a while and annoyed squeaky sounds if she's sleeping and I wake her up, she's just over 8 weeks and also sleeps quite a bit although not as much since I've started feeding her raw..

Sparrow used to lick me all the time, and only me, but he never bit (Sparrow actually never bit anyone during his lifetime). If anything it just seemed like he wanted to groom me and was more of a show of the bond I had with him. In your case, maybe your ferret likes your scent and that's why. The sleeping thing isn't concerning to me due to their age. They should be a lot more active in a few weeks. Ferrets don't take very long to become adults ( I believe at 6 months they are considered fully grown). Taz is very hyper and probably sleeps 10-12 hours a day. Sparrow was more active at night and would tend to sleep mostly during the day unless you woke him up to play, then he was happy to play. He was closer to a 20 hour sleeper, even when young. None of mine have made sounds when I pick them up, that's not an experience I've had yet. While running and playing, yes, but not when I pick them up.

My female Monster would licklicklickCHOMP, but she was a very dominant personality (hence the name even tho she was barely a pound!). My boy Rocket will lick when he's sleepy and feeling cuddly. If he's woken up enough to feel playful it usually turns into nipping of that kind.

Baby's honk on a regular basis. Mill ferrets are removed from mum WAY too soon. They shouldn't leave mum til 10-12 weeks, but mills remove them as soon as eyes are opened at 4-5 weeks, surgically neuter and descent under a local freezing(not full anesthesia), and ship them out immediately after. Those who actually survive all this are in the pet stores by 6-7 weeks of age. Not much wonder they honk and bite. Best way to solve kit biting issues is to use ignore. Give a loud yip and actually leave the area for a few moments before resuming play.
