Hello, and thanks for having me on- I appreciate it! I am a first-time ferret owner who has had my boy for just over a year now. I chose to rescue a ferret who prefers humans to other ferrets, and am mainly here to look for advice on keeping a solo-ferret happy and engaged. He's been a happy boy so far, and I'm always looking for ways to keep him this way!
I understand that ferrets are very social animals and have noticed that a lot of the information and tips out there applies mostly to ferrets living in pairs or groups, so I was hoping use the forum to talk to some more experienced ferret owners directly. Not sure exactly what I'll be posting (I'm totally new to forums like this!), but I'm grateful for the opportunity to do so, and for any advice you guys might be able to offer me! Thanks again!

My very first ferret was a single ferret and my best friend. He and I did everything we could together. I was a college student and then moved 2000 miles away to start my teaching career. Tobias would greet me when I came home from the school day (he was a free roam ferret) and loved to sit on my shoulder when I went for walks about town. He had a cage but it was always open and he would just as often be found in my bed as in the hammock in the cage. He lived seven years and I was heartbroken for weeks after he passed. Some ferrets do just fine as single ferrets. I believe Toby was just meant to be my best friend as I was his.

Hello and welcome. Single ferrets do ok if they get lots of attention from people. I started with 1 and everything was fine, but then I got my second and it was great. There is nothing better than watching ferrets play with each other. hope you enjoy the forum

He's a great study-buddy, and likes to take naps in my sweatshirt pocket while I work sometimes. Thanks for sharing!
