Hello all,
My husband and I learned about this community late last year and I have been reading through the threads as a guest. We are parents to 4 year old Remy and Rogue. We were new to owning ferrets and was not educated in the proper way regarding nutrition for them. In doing research in the last year I found this group from a rescue group that we belong to in our city.
We have been feeding them Wysong Epigen 90 (starch free) and Dr Fosters and Smith kibble. I would like to transition them over to a more nutritious diet. I have read all of the threads and transition steps. I know this will be hard but I would like to start this journey now as we are expecting twins in November and will be 2x harder taking care of all the babies.
My question is can I begin with a FDR option?
If so, which brands are the best?
How would I achieve a right mix of protein in feeding only FDR?
Once they are acclimated to the FDR can I remove the kibble completely or continue to utilize both?
or do I just begin with the transition and start with the “soup” recipe listed within the steps to a raw diet transition?
I am sure I’ll come up with more questions but I appreciate any advice that the community can give us.
Thank you,
Tammy

Welcome and congratulations on the upcoming babies!! When are they due? Depending on the ferret, transitions at an older age can take some time. Not always -- but wanted to warn you.
I would suggest starting with soup. It is easy to make and if frozen in ounce sizes (like an ice cube tray or mini muffin tray) they thaw quickly in the refrigerator.

Hi and welcome I agree with mermaidsirena. I'd start with the soup and work from there BEFORE introducing FDR. I find for some ferrets it is more difficult to wean them from the freeze dried to whole raw than from kibble to whole raw. That said, I do use FDR in their diet from time to time, as well as commercial frozen raw. My vet's office will not feed raw meats, but will rehydrate the FDR if they need to stay there.
