Ugh. I had a bad feeling about that "probable" crap. Call them & find out why? Tell them that she is recommending surgery for egg binding so HOW can you clarify this matter between them and the vet ? You have the right to appeal it. Can't your vet clarify it ?

I have nothing of value to sell. I don't know. It sounds liek there might be some hormonal things to get her to lay, but whether or not that will work if she has too many eggs...I don't know. www.anapsid.org/dystocia.htmlI left a message for the vet and I'm hoping to hear back sometime today.

And the vet didn't need to write "probable" FYI bc the d*mn form says "tentative dx"!

I am waiting to hear back from the vet on other options (and the cost) before I call them. I don't want to say anything that will make it impossible for me to get reimbursement.

So sorry to hear If she can't lay the eggs on her own, she would be "technically" already egg-bound from what I remember working at reptile vet, wouldn't she??? Ask the vet to re-submit the insurance form. If the hormones will work that'd be better for sure, but if the vet says they won't and surgery is the only option then the vet should say "egg-bound" on the form, because that's what it is, isn't it? insurance companies are frustrating. Keeping my fingers crossed

Keeping my fingers crossed Thanks. I will ask the vet when she calls back. As for the hormones being better, that is a tough call. Because if she gets surgery, we NEVER have to worry about this again. Whereas with hormones, we might have to go through the whole ordeal on a yearly basis...

def talk to your vet and tell her that bc she wrote 'probably' when it is definite and she needs surgery that now you are being denied. did they tell you why they denied it? they have to tell you why. they probably think it is a preexisting condition. when did you sign her up? if it was recent like within the past few months they are probably suspicious. they have their staff veterinarians that review that stuff. ask the vet if she can write on her letter head that to a reasonable degree of medical certainty she does not believe that the iguana had this condition prior to date of enrollment with vpi and that she is eggbound and it is not a "preexisting" condition. but i would find out through vpi the exact reason for the denial.

My goodness!!!! Tito is ur iguana right? Hmm I'm sure there is something ur vet can do! Tell him/ her ur situation and see if the vet will bend? This sucks... Is there like an organization where you can get food parcels to tide you over if u paid for tito's treatment? Like red cross or salvation army?

Just curious and I know this would be a last resort, but are there any reptile rescues or sanctuaries that would take her in and get the surgery done? That usually means forfeiting the animal though ;(
I'm so sorry Katt. Definitely appeal the decision, get a reason why.

I'd be appealing, and having the vet send it back in with the "correct" diagnosis again. Good luck, and fingers crossed!
