Can she get pregnant or hurt?

Hi,

Long story short I have a 4 months old female and a 6 month old male. Before today, they’ve never met.

My female came into season and I decided, as she was so young I was anxious about surgery so I bred her with a vasectomised hob instead on Monday.

My male got castrated on Friday. The vets said it was okay to try introducing them. However, when they met today, he bites her, takes her away to a quiet area and mounts her. As far as I’m aware he never actually enters her but this lasts forever.

Could she still become pregnant? Could she get hurt? Should I separate them, will this behaviour end? I separate them but she seeks him out. She doesn’t cry. Tonight they’re in separate cages.

Added: her vulva is still very swollen. Did the vasectomised hob bring her out of season at all?

Thanks for any info, I’m lost and don’t want my bubs hurt.

Hi she should not of come into season at 4 months old she is still only a baby ( if she has unnatural lighting for eg indoors this could force the issue ) if the vas hob has not taken her out ( which it sounds like he has not as she would become dry and begin shrinking ) take her to a vet for a jill jab ( delvosterone ) or have the swollen vulva looked at she may have a severe water infection you hob will continue to try and mount her he does not realize his family jewels are gone in frustration he could harm your jill as she is only a baby and cannot fight back it can take a few months for males to settle down and there hormones to decrease it does not happen over night it is better if you separate them and have a jill jab ( or implant ) done I doubt very much if the vas hob could of mounted her and brought her out at such a young age hope this helps

I’m frustrated because I get different information from different places, I’m trying to do the right things but it all seems to go wrong.

I was told it was perfectly normal for her to come into season even though it’s winter here in Australia and she’s only 4 months.

I was told vas jobs were the safer option (until I researched it).

But it’s been 6 days and her vulva isn’t going down.

Then, on the first night after his surgery he busted open the glue and I had to take him to emergency.

They’ll be separated now until the vet indicates I can put them together.

When I booked her in to be spayed, I was told by one breeder to do it as soon as possible after being with the hob, by someone from the ferret society that it has to be 5 weeks after minimum, and the vet said ‘they’ll just give it a go’
So stressful.

That's a hard call, she's just a baby, she also doesn't need to have a litter to care for when she's no more than a few weeks out of being baby herself. The vassy should have taken her out unless she's too tiny but she should not have been introduced to a hob (even if he was neutered) for at least a week or two to give her time to finish coming out of season. It will take a hob freshly neutered a couple of months to have their hormones drop sufficient to be places with a friend. Up until that point he will continue to believe he's a hob and continue to do hobbish things. Unfortunately, a freshly neutered hob can also impregnate a jill as it takes at least a few weeks to clear residual sperm. It sometimes takes as long as 2 weeks for the vulva to reduce in swelling. If the vassy had not done his job she could have been reintroduced to the vassy...personally at that age I would have done a jill jab and give her more time to grow and mature.
There should be no reason for her to come into season, at this time in Australia. It's winter. It means that your wee girl has been kept in a lighted area for longer than 8 hrs (natural and artificial light is combined to get this. Active breeding lighting is 10 to 12 hrs per day. The only other possibility is that she carries a genetic predisposition for early heats.

Well I’ve taken her to another vet and they’re given her a Jill Jab. They say the best time to sterilise her is in 2 weeks so I’ll make a. Booking for that.
If somehow he has impregnated her, god forbid, I’ll deal with that when it comes. Vet said it would be unlikely.
I was also talk to keep him away a min of 2 weeks. That’s going to be hard work (as I like them to have plenty of time free ranging) but I’ll do my very best. Maybe one will stay with my partner.
Her coming into heat is a bit of an anomaly. She is indoors, and I’ve never even considered how much I could have been confusing her poor boy with lighting. So I’ll try to minim the right natural lighting now for her.

If you don't want to spey her so soon, a des implant is also possible to permit her to mature a bit more, and then spey her when it wears off in a year or so.

That would be my personal choice, to use the DES as well. Spaying seems to stop all growth and musculature maturity whereas the DES does not. No, I don't understand why, it just does. It's basically the same thing but for some reason the DES appears to continue to allow normal growth and maturity whereas the common complaint with the surgical castration is the loss of musculature.
