Just silently lurking - you guys are doing awesome! Remind me - what variety do you have locally of bone-in meats? They are doing awesome with pork and beef - now it would be good to try adding in some other edible bone sources too. Quail, rabbit, frog, duck, turkey are all good bone sources.

Hmm I think I only took a log of organ meats when I went there the last time, I think duck necks is an opinion. There is a place I can get rabbit grinds I believe they are bone in.
I'm probably going to go today so I'll keep that in mind, I also just read the smashing up bone thread which had some helpful info.

So I picked up some quail, rabbit (not grind), pork kidney, pork spleen, duck neck.
They also had pigeon, hen, and I think some other small bird.
I'm not sure what to do with the quail or rabbit...

Sorry - my statistics final for my doctoral course took away part of my brain I don't ever think I will get back!
Tongue is a muscle meat but it does have some taurine if you run low on heart.
Feeding whole quail is much like feeding a chicken. Break it up into manageable amounts and freeze what isn't going to be eaten today or tomorrow. You can cut the entire thing up and feed all the bones and meat. Realize some of the largest bones might not get eaten but they will be chewed on. The same can be done with the rabbit.

So I ended up just chopping up the limbs off the quail and rabbit and left the body's as they were since I wasn't sure what to do with them. This afternoon I just gave them a little bit of everything, maybe that was too overwhelming though not much touched so far. Though I wasn't expecting them to eat everything right away. Good to know about how to feed the rest. I hope the finals went well!
I revised the menu a bit I was thinking maybe i'd start tomorrow.
Sunday: AM: 2oz chicken neck or chicken wing PM: 1oz beef or chicken liver, 1oz pork kidney
Monday: AM: 2oz duck neck PM: 2oz quail
Tuesday: AM: 2oz rabbit PM: 2oz turkey gizzard (I don't have this yet but I do have chicken gizzards)
Wednesday: AM: 2oz duck neck PM: 2oz chicken heart
Thursday: AM: 2oz quail PM: 2oz chicken neck or chicken wing
Friday: AM: 2oz rabbit PM: 1oz chicken heart, 0.5 oz pork spleen, 0.5oz beef or chicken liver
Saturday: AM: 2oz duck neck PM: 2oz turkey gizzard (I don't have this yet but I do have chicken gizzards)

It was hard to tell exactly what was what but it seemed like they did try a lot of the new foods last night. Pretty sure they ate a duck neck, I saw some nibbles on the quail wing, pork gone, steak gone, I think the rabbit gone mostly organs left but some had missing chunks so that's promising. Unfortunately I tossed it all before a weighed it so now my measurements for today are going to be off Since they ate off the menu this morning this afternoon I gave them 2oz gizzards and 2 oz rabbit. For the rabbit I smashed the bones and chopped into strips. I also didn't chop up the gizzards thinking they might treat them like chicken necks. I give them freeze dried rabbit treats and they really like them so i'm hoping they will feel the same about this rabbit.

Looks like they have learned there is good stuff in there! You are getting them comfortable with variety. I will say picking certain days for heart and organs does make it easier to see if they have eaten them. But some people do whole animals so their getting them that way.
I'm just so pleased to see them trying the meats. And to think, they were on kibble in June!

Since I forgot to weight their AM meal which was the mix of all the meats I had so I have to guess. Their PM meal they ate 1.4 out of 4oz They didn't really touch the rabbit I thought they would since they liked the treats, I also tried to hand feed some but they didn't go for it. And Akira did try to stash some rabbit but I put it back. They stashed some gizzard but also ate some. I put the left over rabbit and the stashed gizzard I found back in one bowl and then their AM meal which is 2oz duck neck in another. 1. Ferret's name: Akira 2. Ferret's weight: 3. I don't think they touched their left overs. They ate all the duck necks though, they actually seem to be really into necks in general. PM meal is 2oz Chicken hearts. They don't seem to be a big fans of chicken hearts but they do eat them so we'll see how it goes.

Sounds like they are enjoying the mental exercise as well as the jaw exercise eating the necks. It makes them work at it which really keeps them occupied. Interesting that they are not yet fond of rabbit. Many are. Keep trying - it could just be them getting use to the new meat. This is great that they are even trying it so don't get discouraged. They are looking good! Coats look more shiny and I bet they are getting softer. Such pretty little girls!

I noticed a change in their coats too seems longer and fuller, they even seem bigger. Full of surprises looks like they ate all their heart today as well, I didn't find any stashed but i'm sure there's a sliver or two somewhere. Since there are no left overs and bowls were empty both meals i'm going to go up to 3oz meals. AM will be 3.3oz of quail with smashed bone.
