Hey guys. My ferret sable has been acting really strange since yesterday. She'll be seeing the vet first thing tomorrow morning since she is eating very well and pooping.. She keeps opening her mouth and pressing her tongue to the back of her throat almost like a human would do if you tried to feel under your tongue. I don't know how else to explain it. She has hacked a few times but it's almost like there's something stuck in her throat. I can't see anything in her throat but I used a popsicle stick to put her tongue down to see if I could see anything further down her throat and the back of her tongue is a bright red. She acts fine otherwise but I'm worried. I do not think this is a blockage because she has a good appetite. The only thing about her poop is it's very watery and in semi-small amounts. Have any of you guys heard about something like this? I gave her a little Vaseline and 15 mLs of a raw egg to see if it could've been fur that was irritating her throat but the situation has not improved. I'll keep you guys updated

Also both my ferrets are on a balanced BARF diet. No kibble here

She could well have some fur caught in her throat. Give her some oil to hopefully help it slip down. If it were a piece of bone, she'd likely be clawing at her mouth to dislodge it.

Another thing to check is to see if she's got a chunk of bone stuck in her back molars. It will be very difficult to see. I've had this happen a number of times (which is why I now actually keep a dental pick at the house). It's very common with small chunks of spinal vertebrae. It actually caps the tooth, so it looks like the tooth. ciao

Even an egg and Vaseline wouldn't dislodge the fur? It's really weird. She doesn't have a cough or anything and for the most part acts pretty normal

She went to the vet and he didn't see anything wrong. She got a full exam and he listened to her lungs and heart and looked in her mouth and throat. Her lymph nodes weren't enlarged but he put her on antibiotics just in case. He said it could also be allergies but whatever it is she is acting fine now... Weird

Hey guys I have a question, could this be a symptom of insulinoma ? My ferret laid with me on the sofa today but I took them out a lot later than usual. Is there anyway I can take their blood sugar at home?
