Neat idea! Keep in mind though with unsealed wood like that long shelf; it can absorb fur oils, urine, feces and blood juices. And pressed wood (as often used in any IKEA pieces), any moisture will make the veneer start to lift/peel off and the wood may rot inside from it. So make sure to clean up messes right away.

I knew I should have asked for a second opinion, I asked my boyfriend that exact question (If moisture would absorb through it like that) and he told me it would be fine lol. I technically got mine from target but i'm sure it's the same stuff, I was thinking of getting some laminate (I think that's the name) flooring and putting that over the wood in the future. Luckily they havn't tried to do their business on the 2nd level, and I've been cleaning up their messes on the bottom pretty quick when the pee pads wenr't exactly working out. The litter box is a new addition and last night they didn't go anywhere else but in the litter box so hopefully that'll save me some time till then.

Putting laminate over can work yes, but you need to adhere it very well, and in the grooves you may need to use a sealant to block moisture seeping down. I can't quite advise on that, as I haven't done it because I'm sure one of my lot would try to claw some off and eat it. But if you can do a very neat job of it, they may not be bothered. Good luck!

Unfortunately for me the photos aren't showing up, since photobucket no longer allows free sharing of pics.

Unfortunately for me the photos aren't showing up, since photobucket no longer allows free sharing of pics. Yeah I didn't realize photobucket started doing that, bummer. Is the first one still showing? I looked before and it wasn't but now that I look back at it it's showing. I deleted the other two that weren't. I'll post them with links instead some other way.

No, none are showing by themselves. They were showing before when I commented. Had you used a different hosting service at first for those? Many of us now use sites like Imgur instead for photo hosting.

LindaM I think it was just a glitch on my end because now none of them are working again. I havn't used photobucket in forever till now, I've been using gyazo which just provides links. Maybe I'll make an Imgur at some point though since that seems to work.
