Hello!
I have been looking for awhile, but decided to ask you guys: what are some good studies or general places/books/sites to look at for the nutritional requirements of ferrets? Like what they should be getting, what they shouldn't be getting, etc.. I looked around a bit on the Holistic Ferret Site, but either I am blind and cant find it or its not there?
Thanks Guys! Abigail

I'm not sure if you have read this already, but a great place to start learning about nutrition is here: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/17480/intro-raw-newbies-readIt gives great information and starts off with the "what's" and the "why's". Once you read a few of those, ask questions. If you want to dig deeper into research, I am sure someone will point you in that direction.

Thank you ! I still cant seem to find their nutritional requirements or studies done on them. I do plan on googling it, but thought I would ask here first to see if you guys or anyone else had a good and reputable link/book/etc ^_^

Careful on what you Google. The Internet is fraught with lots of misleading and incorrect information on ferrets. You will find plenty of sites saying to feed Marshall's kibble, or fruits and veggies, or advocate that the Marshall products are meant for your ferret's "health".

Exactly Linda, thats why I thought I would ask here first! Im just wanting to know what nutrients they need to receive each day, and just nutritional information in general. I figured of all places you guys would know a good site / book / studies

Did the raw studies section not give you what you were looking for? Can you be specific in what you are interested in reading? Are you looking to read quantitative research regarding ferret diets or looking for veterinary magazine articles regarding ferret diets? I posted the link to raw-science just in case you are interested: holisticferret60.proboards.com/board/47/raw-science

There are no "official" studies done on ferrets and raw, and very little on other carnivores and raw. After all the kind of money that takes is usually only had by large corporations who have a lot to loose by them.

Ohhh ok. I was just looking for a study that gives an idea on what ferrets require nutritionally on a daily basis. I saw some of the files that look interesting but quite a few of the links no longer work

There is none for ferrets. What vets etc have done is extrapolate from cats, who are another obligate carnivore. It has been theorized that taurine for example is essential in the diet since cats will suffer neurological issues without it in the diet. And anecdotally it appears the same for ferrets.

Oh wow really? That actually surprises me! Hopefully someone will do a study on ferrets in the near future for us to learn about.
