A friend gave me his cat tree because his kitten outgrew it (indoor cat, clean house.. has her shots) I made it into 2 trees and made a double floor hammock for them. They absolutely love it. I wish there was a company that sold pieces and you could just customize it. That would be brilliant marketing for cat people and for ferret people. I will be getting rid of the cat scratcher and the random poles that hold nothing. They're just there because a need to get some proper bolts because the only ones I was left with stick out. they're meant to hold 2 poles together. I'm debating on buying more for fun customizing or getting extra crafty and just making my own. I could only find this on the Canadian Wayfair site but there are a ton on the American one that could become 2 and even 3 trees.

Good job in cutting down its height into a much safer version. I also have some random pieces in the garage from the one cat tree, I shortened for the ferrets. The cat has a tall one upstairs where the ferrets cannot get because they used to climb that thing all the way to the top, with me freaking out underneath it, with blankets and pillows to break falls and I still didn't feel safe about it. Their short one is also surrounded by blanket piles and pillows to break anyone's fall, even though the tree isn't very tall.
As for the scratcher piece, you may want to see what your ferrets do with it before removing it entirely. I have one or two who will claw at it at times just for the fun of it, though they can just do the same with the rope pieces.
Give Pinterest a whirl, there are some AMAZING custom plans for DIY cat trees, so you can totally make it any height you want. I'm trying to convince my husband to get me some pieces from a tree so I can build a natural-looking cat tree for Hades.
