they'll do that. sometimes quite dramatically. Silvers/pandas often shed most of their color and "roan out" to almost all or all white, becoming a DEW, and some will "blow the coat," leaving only the peach fuzz replacement hairs. Poppy blew her coat once, but only once in 6 years, and scared the heck out of me. She was healthy and fluffy one day and the next she was this skinny fuzzy little thing that had Poppy's eyes and personality but her lovely coat was just gone, left in her bed overnight. It grew back as lovely as ever. She was a sable.

With some you can hold them up and pluck out the winter coat Just an fyi- they can also drop a LOT of weight very quickly. Usually in about 3 weeks.

I learned during my guys first spring that ferrets have ALOT of hair. It was everywhere and it only took him about a week to drop it all! Just make sure to feed them plenty of egg and brush them because he ended up ingested too much hair and threw up a huge clump of it. I was lucky because it usually ends up causing an intestinal blockage.
