I've been on the look out for ferrets to rescue in my area ever since I bought my first house last year. I finally got my chance late December. To keep a long and sad story semi-short, a friend of mine called me about a friend of theirs who had gotten a ferret as an impulse buy at Petco. The person had no knowledge of ferrets so he was kept in a Guinea Pig cage almost all day, I think he was fed Meow Mix, and was treated cruelly because he was nipping and wouldn't stop (my husband and I learned he is deaf and we suspect he was hit). One thing led to another and I was able to take him home so he could live in a happy home. His name is Obi-Wan(we call him Obi for short), and he's doing wonderfully with his brother & sister, Luke and Leia. Here they are in a hammock together. Obi is the alert one on top of his siblings. We've learned a lot having a little one who is deaf. We are careful to make vibrations on the ground so he knows we are there and we altered our training tactics and he no longer bites (except if you have socks on - no toes are safe if you're wearing socks). Best of all, he took to eating raw super quickly. I'm hoping he teaches his older siblings to be better about eating the organs.

Thank you for rescuing this wee one and giving him a forever home <3 It never fails to amaze me how they can bring themselves to trust again after being so cruelly used by humans

Your ferrets look a little like mine lol! I'm so happy you saved the fur butt and that he is accepted by the others. He's going to have such a great life now! And those names!!! Hahaha mine are boba, jango and Bossk. (Boba is the girl.. I didn't know she was a girl because the petstore had her as a boy on the paper)

Sherry lee olenka aurra mermaidsirena Thank you all for the show of support. I really consider myself the lucky one. It's like my little family has become complete. I volunteer on weekends at rescues or low-cost animal clinics and I can tell whether a dog or cat (ferrets aren't super common in my area) has had a bad past. You would never guess with Obi. He bops around, bristle brush tail and all, making loud, playful noises. All he needed was love (and decent food - no more meow mix), and we're happy to shower him with it.

Our little ones do look A LOT alike, and all Star Wars themed names too! We ALMOST called Obi Boba Fett. It was a close call. From what I read Obi may lighten in color so we may have identical ferrets at some point.

Lol I try to brush mine but most of the time they wiggle their way free after a few strokes. I keep trying though. I never thought such a small animal could produce so much fur. Sometimes I forget I have ferrets and not a husky.

welcome! Most of us have taken in a rescue or 2. (8 for me, a bunch more if you count craigslist ferrets) Just don't get in too deep where you can't afford what you got.

I do not brush mine. They "brush each other" while wrestling:) I think that might work for my two boys, who will belly flop each other and tossle about. My tiny little female is smarter than all my animals put together, and when Obi wants to play, she’ll put up with it for a few minutes, outmaneuver him, and disappear. She will have to deal with the brushing since she’s not to keen on wrestling her new brother who is much, much larger lol.

Wow, now that’s a business of ferrets! That’s good of you to take so many in! I’ve been putting money away into an emergency ferret fund ever since I got my first pair. I learned through this board how costly the vet bills will probably get so I’m pre-emptively putting money aside for them. I also count my blessings that I have a well paying job, so financially, we’re ok. I’m more worried about my sanity trying to wrangle the little ones. I thought taking in a third would be not so different than just two, but add in him being deaf and them being free roam sure makes for a long game of hide and seek everyday when I get home.
