I am wondering if once I successfully switch my ferrets to raw I could feed it to them like.. in a paste ? Say i take the ingredients, then I pass them through a grinder to make kinda like canned dog food, portion it and freeze, unfreeze at need ?
I'm sorry if it's a dumb question ! The reason why I'd like to do that is because I'm vegan so I don't eat meat at all and if I buy the meat... it's going to go bad way before they eat all of it ? I can't buy tiny portion at the grocery store..
I guess an alternative would be to prepare zip locks of the quantity and freeze them and unfreeze at will?? Can we do that ?

No question is dumb or foolish.....I freeze all my meats in quantities that I'm going to use. I buy all my meats in bulk. Developing a paste would defeat some of the benefits (jaw strength, tooth cleaning and mental stimulation). Bone in meat is a requirement and it's really difficult to create pastes of bone. A paste would also cling to teeth making a cement type substance and making tooth care a nightmare. ciao

Like Heather said, it's not a dumb question at all, and we are here to help put your mind at ease if we can. Most of us (even the meat squeamish ones, I'm sure) will buy meat in bulk, or on specials, or do monthly or every few months' runs of shopping. Now, wee ferrets can't eat all that meat before it will go bad, so we just drop it all into a chest freezer and then unfreeze when needed. Meat remains good in the deep freezer for a year.
You can freeze right off the bat when buying, but while it might be a harrowing day, I suggest prepping and portioning the meat before you freeze, versus freezing, unfreezing and then freezing again. Portion into whatever works easiest for you, ziplock bags are common, or smaller containers, I technically use both methods myself. Then you just take out the amounts you need to thaw for the required meals, I'll take out the morning meal and evening meal the evening before it's needed. Depending on how slow your fridge thaws things, you might take out 2 days in advance.
Being someone who also feeds grinds along with a Frankenprey menu, you don't want to have them eating only a paste/grind type of food. It is so bad for their teeth, you'll have to brush several times a week, and then, some ferrets who are predispositioned to it will overeat on the grinds and get fat.

Alright thank you both for the thorough answer ! I'll definitely skip the paste idea and do 'meal prep' that I will freeze instead

I'm rather fussy with meat myself, so this bit of advice may help. Do your meat prep on a day that you feel generally good about things, not one where you are tired or sick feeling. Good mood, think of your happy place (thinking of happy ferrets nomming their meat helps me a lot), maybe turn on some music that you enjoy, and just dive into the job. I always clear off the kitchen island, get all my bags and bowls ready ahead of time, set up the scale, etc. so that I don't have to struggle with anything mid-way. It tends to make for a quick and efficient routine from start to end.
